Skilling While On Vacation
« on: September 01, 2010, 04:38:12 PM »
I was wondering which WA destinations have skill objects available for use, such as easels, computers, fitness equipment, etc. I know that China has martial arts, but do other destinations have the equipment? Do any destinations have sculpting stations or inventing benches?

I don't think any would have Sculpting Stations or Inventing Tables, as Ambitions came after WA and EA never said anything about altering the vacation locations. But if you want to skill while on vacation you could go into Edit Town, pick a few community locations, or even make your own, and add the objects in yourself. That way, you can skill in whatever skill you want while on vacation!

In addition to the martial arts, China also has Exercise equipment and Chess tables everywhere.

In france you can use the nectar making equipment to level that skill.  Don't know of anything else.

Several skills gain boosts as you do tomb raiding rather than the typical go to items for skilling.  Clearing rubble piles and opening secret doors improves your athletics.  Disarming traps improves handiness.

The old familiar items (only on the regular community lots, none of the tomb lots included here):
China: Much of this location is focused on logic and athleticism to go with Martial Arts, so most of what is available feeds those skills.
The Scholar's Garden - Chess Table
Martial Arts Academy - Chess Table, Exercise Equipment, Telescope

Egypt: This location is focused on discovery, and it being a desert with some fishing.  The Photography skill is greatly benefited from practicing here with so many of the subjects available.
No community skill items that I've found so far in this location   :(

France: This location is focused on Nectar Making so gardeners are benefitted most here.  If you pick up the books, there's some beautiful places to sit down and read them.
Town Square: Chess Table

On a side note, many of the community lots that are not designated as tombs have tons of open space for you to fill with whatever you desire from Edit Town mode.  Some even have fully constructed building "shells" just waiting to be filled with fun activities.

I believe there is also a chess table in Egypt's General Store. It seems like the Art Museum in France should have an easel.  :(

Yeah, I only listed ones that aren't defined as tombs  ;D

Option 2 is to adventure like crazy and build a modest vacation home for when the home lot is too distracting for your sims to achieve their skill goals  :D

You can also find a training dummy, board breaker, and telescope at the Scholar's Gardens in China.  And in France, you can use the training dummy and board breaker at the museum.  I don't recall seeing an easel anywhere.

Fishing can be done in all of them, For guitar or writing take a guitar or laptop in inventory. There's a stereo in the china base camp for athletics (although the athletics equipment in the academy is better) likewise there's a stereo in the market in Egypt I think, and I think there's a stereo in the base camp in France but I wouldn't swear to it, there's a chess table in the park in France and another in the base camp, you can cook in any of the base camps although in Egypt you're restricted to food 'cooked' without a stove (ie autumn salad, peanut-butter and jelly sandwiches, and I think sushi might be uncooked as well), photography can be done in any of them (they all sell at least the cheapo camera), if you've already got the first level in Charisma that can be raised pretty easily (and it's a golden opportunity to get the celebrity challenge done for easy friend making in the future), not sure where to find mirrors to get the first level if you haven't already done that, for handiness go round the base camps upgrading the sinks and so on, in France particularly there's a lot of them, obviously less applicable if previous generations have already done that, that leaves gardening and painting, of the original skills. I'm not sure if it's possible to gain gardening by harvesting from all the various garden's in holiday locations, but you could take gardening books with you to read. Painting is more problematic, I do wish that EA would make a portable easel, ie one that could go in a Sims inventory, to be realistic it could maybe only allow small paintings to be done on it?

With the LTR "Oppotunistic", it's very easy to have a level 3 visa.
It's always my primary goal when travelling in a new country, in order to give to my family a good sleeping/training place.
Even with very low funds you can have a good lot

I took your advice and am now enjoying a vacation home for the first time. It's so nice to have some extra time with my sims before they age up.

If you have the items at home already, you can put them in your inventory before you leave home.  Then just pull them out while on vacation.  Of course, remember to put them back in inventory before returning home.

Yes, if you have a vacation home.  Can't do it at base camp, though, unless it's something portable like a guitar.

Talking about skilling on vacation; you all know that skilling highly depends on a sims mood, so put an spa in town to get that nicely +75 moodlet from it for the next 7 days (you will take that moodlet with you when having a vacation less than 7 days).
Combine that with an Ambrosia (don't worry, they won't get younger from it while on vacation) diet and your sims will have a mood hit combo +150 to get them instantly to cloud nine for the next 7 days!

Now it is almost impossible challenging to get them unhappy. Even when another sim will die, giving your sim a negative -50 moodlet for the next 2 days you will barrly notice a mooddrop.

O, and by the way, Ambrosia can be saved on the food replicator while it is in boil form, so don't waste all your life fruit and deathfish on it at once.

Speaking of skilling while on vacation, china's Scholar's Garden is just outright awesome for it, particularly for logic and meditating. Plus, there's the nice skill speed increasing incense that can be bought locally.
