Sims 4 Crashing Issue
« on: April 02, 2015, 03:38:14 PM »
I've tried absolutely everything to get my game to work and nothing is happening!
It'll open load perfectly but, when it gets to the Sims 4 loading screen when you first launch it before it has the play button is when it just freezes.
It'll sit there for 10 seconds then say, "Sims 4 isn't responding" Then, I have to shut it down because it'll stay on that screen until I shut it down. Please help! :'(

Here are some tips to try:

1. Move your mods folder to the desktop, clear your game cache and delete the localthumbcache.package from the Sims 4 folder to help with troubleshooting. Try playing the game again to test. If it loads okay, it may be that some of the mods/cc have become outdated.

2. Making sure graphics drivers are up to date.

After updating the graphics drivers, restart the computer.

3. If you have a dual graphics card system, make sure the game runs on the card and not the chip.

4. Turn off Origin in game:
In Origin - Application Settings - Origin In-Game. Turn this off. As sometimes it causes issues with the game.

5. Start the game in Windowed mode, via Origin:

In Origin > Games Library - Right-click on Sims 4 and select Game Properties.
In the Command Line Arguments, add the following text: -w and click Okay.

6. Try running Origin As Administrator:
Right-click on the Origin icon on the desktop and select Run as Administrator.

7. Log out of Origin. -- *If exiting Origin isn't working, open Task manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc) search for a file called ts4.exe. Click on it and select end process.

8. Try a Factory Reset -- Sims 4 Factory Reset - HowTo

9. If none of the above help, please share the information listed below about your computer.

10.) Restart computer if you haven't in awhile. This helps to refresh the computer's memory.

I listed 8 tips and none of them worked? Have you tried repairing the game? - Right Click on the game and select Repair Game.

If that doesn't work what may be of better help is to post about your problem at answers.ea.com as they may be able to help you further with your crashing problem.

If you have mods/custom content you'll need to go through them if you haven't already done so recently, due to the new patch. It has broken some of the mods and custom content. If you need help with that, have a look at the link below.

MrsFlynn is absolutely right about mods.  Fortunately, I didn't have any of the ones that crashed the game, but my sister did and it kept crashing her game until she found the one that was causing it.

I think I was having the same problem as you. I tried several things, but clearing the cache and doing a factory reset didn't help. But disabling Origin in game, going in Origin offline mode, and going to This PC > Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and deleting the lastException.txt and lastCrash.txt files did. After that I haven't had a problem. I'm not sure which exactly one fixed it but it can't hurt to try them all. :)

I have had the same issue since the last Origin Launcher Update sometime between 7 Apr and 10 April.  I uninstalled and reinstalled Origin and the Sims, to no avail.  I scrubbed *everything* off the computer.  Every file.

The only thing that works is keeping the Origin Launcher in offline mode.  Online = crash at the plumbob, every time.

I lost all my saves (I still have the old ones but the game doesn't recognize them anymore even though they're in the right folder) but my saved Sims and lots are fine.

An interesting thing I found was that the repair tool option in the Origin Launcher always fails for the base game.  The Holiday Pack, Game Pack and Expansion Packs all repaired successfully, but the base game repair ended every time with a 'download failed'.

Losing the saves hurt a bit, but I really would have been gutted if I'd lost my Sims too.  As it is, I can't go into the gallery anymore until whatever this problem is gets sorted.

Re: Sims 4 Crashing Issue/Gallery problems

Hi MissTrips,

I saw your post in the tech part of the forum, and was wondering if I might be able to help troubleshoot your gallery problem?

I do have a tip thread about gallery problems, have you had a look at that?

Topic: Sims 4 - Gallery Help Tips
http://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/index.php/topic,22709.0.html

I'm sorry to hear about you loosing some of your game save files. Do you have a backup copy of your Sims 4 folder? That may contain the not working game saves? I was thinking if so, still keep a hold of them, just in case there's a fix for them later on.

I tried to search on the other problem - download failed, and wasn't able to find anything other that this:

Origin Errors and Connection Issues FAQ
http://help.ea.com/en/article/connection-issues-with-origin/

I'm thinking that may not help much? So the best thing I can think of is you may need to contact EA's customer service to see if they maybe able to help you better.
