Where to get your roof top hot tub...
« on: October 28, 2010, 02:50:30 PM »

One of the first screenshots I saw for Late Night had a couple sitting in a hot tub outdoors on a rooftop.  When I actually got the game, I was looking through all the buildings to find a place to live out this dream.  I was disappointed to discover I could not install my own hot tub in any of the (outdoor) roof top locations.

I finally discovered there is ONE place (and apparently, only one)  that does have a roof top hot tub.  It's the building called One Leo Center.  There's also one in the Aquarius club, but you obviously can't live there.

When starting a new game, there's a couple already living there.  Needless to say, that couple met with a visit from the Edit Town Zoning Commitee. :)

For what it's worth, it IS possible to also install a hot tub in other roof top locations, but it took quite a bit of fussing around with the cheat codes (mentioned in the readme.txt file).  Those cheats will allow you to adjust the apartment's exterior walls (a little bit..still quite limited).    The major problem with hot tubs is they're actually quite big vertically, so you need a lot of space below it (like a swimming pool).   And in the apartments, the game does not allow you to place any objects that go into the "black" space below/outside your own suite.

I just thought I would mention this in case anyone else was experiencing the same frustration I was.

I know what you mean, I was so excited that I could put a hot tub upstairs and when I went downstairs, there was this weird looking contraption sitting there, I didn't know what it was at first, but realized it was the underneath part of the hot tub.  We wanted them to do things realistic, but wow, never thought they would actually do that.  It is kinda neat if you think about it, except when you are trying to build with it, so I suppose in that respect, is frustrating. :)

If I recall correctly, it's around 45,000.

What cheat allows you to place a hot tub in a high rise?

I believe it's moveObjects on.  This ignores the placement limitations based on the size of the object, which is always the problem with hot tubs.

Thanks.

I had "Edit Town' moved the Jones' out of their apartment with the hot tub as a trial. Two days into the sim's first week the hot tub broke. I called a repair person and they stood there doing nothing. I tried to remove the hot tub and it couldn't saying a sim who was supposed to have visited previously was still in the tub. This was a townie that my sim had invited but she never seemed to have shown even thought she said she was on her way.

I was able to remove the tub with the moveObjects On code, but not add another.  :-\  Well that particular game developed even worse problems later, so I started it over.

Thanks though for the help!

You could have used the resetSim cheat to move that guest back to... God knows where she started.

I've only found one way to add a hot tub to a rooftop, which I tried at One Leo Center. With MoveObjects on and restrictbuildbuyinbuildings false I could, for whatever reason, place a hot tub in spots where there was nothing underneath (The construction below it couldn't "blend" into the building"), meaning "outside" the terrace, basically floating in mid-air. In certain spots the construction below would disappear completely.

By adding floor tiles to this space it actually didn't look that bad, unless you looked at the entire home as a whole in which case the added terrace looked kind of ridiculous. I haven't even tried playing in this apartment yet, so I don't know if sims can access the tub. There's a problematic area where the building kind of overlaps the floor tiles, so I'll just try it and see I guess.

If anyone knows a more efficient way and maybe have figured out how to place a hot tub in a manner similar to the original hot tub on One Leo Center, that would be great.

Hello,

First time poster, so forgive me if I don't make the most sense.  Anyways, you can put a hot tub on the roof, at least you can at Two Leo Center (which is where I live)!  I am not 100% certain how I actually did it, all I know is I did the cheats that the previous posts had suggested and it went in.

Now, it wasn't on the regular balcony, it put it on the second one, as there is that giant thing attached to it.  But, my Sim tried it out and everything works great!

I hope this helps!!
