Hi, everyone. This is my first time posting on here, and I hope I'm doing it right. If not, so sorry! I ran a search for this on the forums and on Google, too, but I wasn't able to find an answer.

I've had two Sims complete the nerd brain aspiration already, and I have a third working on it right now. I'm perplexed that my Sims don't seem to get credit for books they've already read when the "read books" part of the aspiration appears, and I wondered if I'm dealing with a bug or if things are working the way they're supposed to. In other words, when the "read 3 books" task appears, I always see "0/3," no matter how many books my Sim has read prior to choosing the nerd brain aspiration. When the "read 8 books" task appears, I see "0/8," even though my Sim has read at least three books by this time. Same goes for "read 10 books." Is this what should to happen? Just wanted to make sure if it is.

Welcome to the forum!

The Nerd Brain aspiration only counts books that your sim has read while he or she has the aspiration. In other words, if your sim read 20 books while working on some other aspiration, none of them would carry over. There are some other aspirations that work like this -- for example, if you've written several excellent books before getting to that point in the Best-Selling Author aspiration, they won't count, either. On the other hand, the Fabulously Wealthy aspiration tallies up the amount of money you've made prior to selecting it.

I do have a question, though -- has it been a while since you've played? and do you have the most recent patch? They made all the aspirations easier a few months ago. I don't think there's any aspiration now that requires you to read 8 or 10 books.

Hi, MarianT!

Thanks so much for responding and for the welcome. This is really helpful. I've been confused about how the aspirations work when it comes to carrying over. It's great to have more info.

And, thanks to your message, I also realized that I need to update. Curious to find out how things have changed on the aspirations. Hoping the changes will be for the better. :)

Yeah some aspirations track past progress when not actively selecting the aspirations while some requires you to complete it while you are actively selecting the aspirations. Something like skills, money and number of friend does tracked properly if you choose another aspirations but some specific task need you to select the aspiration.

Also make sure your sims fully read the book, sometimes I found that my sims would stop part way through and put the book down then choose a different book next time.  Occasionally it has taken 2-3 'read book' interactions before the book was finished.  I know it's finished when they get a 're-read book' interaction.

And some times they never get the "re-read" message.  This is often for skill books when your Sim is already past the level the book would help with.
What?  Grannies can't play games?
