Playing pre-made sims in different towns

Hi everyone: first off I want to wish everybody a safe and happy fourth of july!  second, I was wondering if I take a premade sim from one expansion pack like for instance starlight shores and play that sim in say sunset valley will that sim from starlight shores be playable in sunset valley? do I have to have that expansion pack installed in order for that sim to be playable? I mean do I have to check that particular expansion pack in my expansion packs in order for it to run?  thanks!

You can take any premade Sims from any world/town and play them in a different world/town as long as the world or expansion is installed and playable.

If you don't have the world or expansion installed or not playable, the game will act like they aren't installed.
