Hi all,
I'm hoping one of you lovely people can help me out. I downloaded the latest patch on Tuesday, which stopped the entire game working (the base game became incompatible with my current set-up and I was told to update my game). I backed up my game files, uninstalled everything as per Pam's very useful instructions (I have all EPs and SPs except for LN), ran scan disk and defragmented my PC. I then tried to re-install the Base Game, and throughout the install I kept getting "Error: Data error (Cyclic Redundancy Check)". Clicking "Retry" cleared the message and the install carried on. This went on for 15 hours (although I did go to bed after the first 5 hours, so any errors that popped up until I got up this morning sat there all night). Finally, with the installation bar full and those pesky error messages still popping up, I gave up and cancelled.
Some searching on the web has thrown up suggestions of DVD drive issues and scratched CDs. One suggestion was to copy all files from the disk to the desktop, and then install from there. Is this a feasible suggestion?
My computer is old. Very old. Probably below spec for the game, however I've had the game since it released and never had any problems (not a single glitch... until now). Any suggestions? Or is it off PC shopping for me?
Nala
