Is there a way to get rid of the new label on items?

Like the title says is there a way to get rid of the new label on items?
I can understand the new label on items that I just got like the items for Christmas. But I still have some items from when I first got the game still showing as new items.
For example 4 of the 12 plumbob lights from having the Sims 3 expansions are still showing as new items. I don't understand why just these 4 lights show as new but not the other ones. The four still show as new are the Late Night, Generations, Seasons and the Let there be plumbob awards lights.

Select the item in the catalog, as if you would place it. Next time you get to that category, the item shouldn't be marked as new anymore.

For clothing, select it once.

Thanks DarkWalker, I can't believe I didn't think to try that myself. Guess it was just a case of overlooking the obvious.
