Do husbands always divorce their wife if she has a child with another man?

I started playing Sims 3 a while back and thought it would be funny to get the wife of a rich/famous man pregnant and immediately end the affair, with the idea that the kid would be raised by the rich guy.   When she had the baby, not only did I get tagged with having a baby out-of-wedlock, but they were also no longer a couple.   I thought I'd read in a forum that husbands don't do anything when the wife has a baby that isn't his (perhaps he doesn't know it isn't his).   Did they change the game in one of the expansions to make the guy divorce her, or was there always a percentage chance of it?

I think it really depends on the relationship between your Sim and her husband.  I did a similar thing with my Sim, when her husband became an elder she cheated with a younger guy and had a baby.  When it came to the crunch, she broke up with the jealous lover, and repaired the relationship with her husband.  He brought up the child in the same way as his own earlier kids, although it was clear in the family tree who was fathered by whom.  My female Sim had a very high charisma, though, so that might have helped.

What happened in my case was there was no contact between my sim and the wife for nine months (I had formally ended the relationship after they had sex with the baby crib sound), and then on the day the baby was born, the wife was no longer in a relationship with the husband.   Are you saying that perhaps they would have re-married if given time?   I can't remember if both were still living in the same house or not.

Yes, I think you could have gotten them back together and it all work out.

I'm not sure if you're using any mods or not, but just in case: If you're playing with a story progression mod like NRaas, this will almost always happen due to the "red haired baby" scenario being active by default.  I even had a wife leave her husband after he was abducted by aliens and had an alien baby. (I was testing to see if inactives could have alien babies if you played them just up to the abduction, then switched households, if you're curious how that came about.)

The breakup message you got sounds like the one you get when the accuse of cheating thing happens, and you don't repair the relationship in time before the moodlet runs out.  Had the sims who divorced previously had that happen? Perhaps the breakup timing was just coincidental?
