Sim stuck!
« on: September 13, 2010, 09:41:19 AM »
I have a sim stuck on my lot and I can't get rid of him!

My sims invited a few of their friends round and by the end of the evening everyone went home but one sim, he stayed at the bottom of the staircase in their front garden. He's been waving around and fussing like there's something in the way but I can't figure out what. None of my sims can interact with him, so to them it's like he's not there. I've tried deleting the staircase, lowering the terrain so that you can see his feet clearly but he still can't move! He's not dying of hunger, he's getting tired, hungry, smelly and very miserable.

Does anyone have any idea how I can help him out?

Hello Nala3! Welcome to Carl and Pam's Sims 3 Forum!

From what you've described, the Sim is definitely "stuck." I don't know how familiar you are with cheats, but if you "reset" the Sim he'll most likely disappear off the lot.

  • Hover over the Sim with your cursor to make sure you know how his name is spelled (Firstname Lastname).
  • Open up the cheats window (type "control+shift+c" in Windows, "command+shift+c" if using a Macintosh).
  • Type "resetSim[ i]Firstname[/i] Lastname" (you need to make sure you're putting in the stuck Sim's name though, of course!).
  • Hit the Return key.

The cheats window should close, and (with luck) that poor stuck Sim will either disappear, or wander off the lot on his own.

I hope this works. There are "meaner" testing cheats to help him if this doesn't work, but it should do the trick.

(EDIT: "resetSim" has a capitalized "S" in the middle!)

  • Type "resetsim Firstname Lastname" (you need to make sure you're putting in the stuck Sim's name though, of course!).
  • Hit the Return key.

The reset code is actually "resetSim Firstname Lastname" with the "S" in "Sim" capitalized.  It's important to type it precisely this way or it won't work.

Dunno' about that Pam, both work for me (I'm using a Macintosh, perhaps that's the difference). I did edit my post, though; I know some cheats are case-sensitive on various flavors of Windows.

And Metro-man, hats off to you, I was lazy and just typed an answer instead of checking the Forum for an answer first! haha :D

It could be a Mac vs. PC issue for sure.  I'm on a PC and had fits over that code before I got it right way back when I first started playing.

I use it on mine with no capital letters and it works.  After I used it and read you had to capitalize, I tried it using caps and it didn't work, go figure.  I am using Windows also.  Doesn't matter to me, as long as it works.  Sometimes I have to use it quite often.  My sims like to get stuck in a front porch, they go up the stairs and then sink down into the foundation and then wave their arms at me until I get them unstuck, so that little code comes in handy. :D

:) Thanks for all the tips!

I went on again last night ready to type in the cheat but before I could he became unstuck and despite being in a bad state he went to play on my sim's trampoline!

Is it common for sims to get stuck? What do they tend to get stuck on?

There is no reason for it, from what I can tell.  Maybe just the way the pixels are formatted and sometimes if you change something around, that will keep it from happening again.

I had this happen just today! Emma Hatch wanted a Ice sculptor of herself so I called her over and had her pose and all that good stuff. Than for some reason she just wouldn't leave! And no I didn't put a fence around her lol. She just kept wandering the lot, getting hungrier and hungrier. I kept waiting for her to go home, but finally after about 5 hours of watching her, I used the cheat. She poofed away, I'm guessing to her house. And I have to do it this way too, resetSim Emma Hatch or it doesn't work. Normally I would have let her suffer, but today I'm in a good mood!  ;D

I was just playing and had my sim visit the landgraabs.  Nancy had a baby in her arms inside that hedge row in front of her house.  They were stomping and waving their arms, Nick was outside the hedgerow all upset, so I used the cheat and poof, guess they went inside.  I could have left them, I suppose, since it was not my active household, but I would have felt bad.  :)

The same thing happened to me. My sims had a wedding and invited about 8 people. After the wedding was over I had 3 sims who stayed in the back forever. 1 sim stayed for an extra day and peed on himself and what not, and then the next day he finally left. The other 2 stays for another 2 days before they finally left. I waited it out since nothing else was working for me.
