Disappearing "Baby Momma's"
« on: October 19, 2014, 12:39:37 AM »
When my Sim impregnates "not in world" sims, she gives birth than disappears.

The child still shows up in my "people" tab, but the mom is missing, and if I go to household management, the photo of the family is blank. I can move the "family" in with another, but the first time I try, it crashes. The second try usually works.

Also, I can only move this family into a house with another family because only the new infant moves. The child's mother is gone forever...

Has anyone else seen this?

I've had it happen three times so far, with 4 children (one set of twins).

You mean she gets pregnant and the father is a sim that is in the world but not living in a house?

I believe she's saying the opposite.  The father is in the house, but the mother doesn't live in the house.

The father is my sim, living in the house that I am playing. He invites her over to his house for a date, and they "Try for Baby." A few days later, he either gets a call saying that the baby was born or the baby just shows up in his list of relationships as a friend.

The mother is a sim that he met wandering around town, and she does not have a house in any neighborhood. Once she gives birth, the baby is in my sim's list of the relationships, but the mother has disappeared.

When I go to Manage Worlds, then Household Management, and look under Unplayed Households, there is a household listed under the last name of the mother and new baby, but the photo is just blank. If I try to move the household into a home, it says that I can't because there are no adults. It often crashes the game as well.

Finally, I discovered that I could move this "invisible" household in with another family, and just the baby would move in.

Now I have a couple raising my sim's 4 children, born outside his home to 3 different mothers, since their mothers "took off." haha

I even did this with the maid once. She gave birth to my sim's child, and then we got a new maid. She was gone.

Any ideas?

This doesn't just happen with mothers.  All townies disappear regularly.  Most only last a day or two, at least in my game.

Hmmm, so do you think it's a coincidence that the mothers all disappeared right after the baby was born? Or perhaps just  a normal "cycle" of disappearing townies?

I guess if they usually disappear after a day or two, and the baby is born after a day or two, then that makes sense.

That is weird though. I have seen other complaints about townies with significant relationships, even family, disappearing from the game. I hope Maxis addresses this issue somehow in the near future.

Thanks for your help and input!

I'd suggest if you think you might get someone pregnant use manage household and put them in a house. Think of it like making sure your kids in a good home. In my legacy challenge anyone they interact with I move into a house somewhere, so far they seem to stay. I even randomly produce kids using genetics and marry people I see together a lot. Keeps the story going and the generations strong to make up for lack of story progression.

Explain please.  Do you mean you move them in with another family?  What if there are no empty houses?

How do you"randomly produce kids using genetics" and marry people you see together if you are not playing those people?
What?  Grannies can't play games?
I speak perfect Nooblik, (and some Simlish)!

I put them into empty houses (there are quite a few by default). I typically move people in together then use the cheat cas.fulleditmode before going into manage household which allows me edit their relationship. I then use the add new sim option if you choose the one that say's genetics you can choose who the parents are. I use the random trait generator on the legacy page to keep everything random (as they age from children the game takes care of the rest of the randomness).

Houses are ultimately placeholders and since they don't actually need to meet any needs while there don't be afraid to put people in houses they can't actually fit in. I usually leave a little bit of space just to add in kids if needed.

That how I made sure his children didn't disappear. I moved them all in with another couple as their "adoptive" parents.

Does your active sim in the game you are experiencing this have the "Beloved" trait from finishing one of the aspiration challenges? It is the reward trait that makes relationships not decay. It has been known to do things. It made all my non-active-household sims in town that were related to active-household sims disappear upon turning into teenagers. It used to also make lots in town uneditable, but think an update cured that part of it a while back.

If your active sim has this trait, then you might want to use the cheats to remove it and see if the problem occurs still. I don't remember the cheat right off my head as I haven't played for a while, but the trait is called "legendary" when you use the cheat.

It stinks losing the reward of this trait, but the non-active related sims disappearing from my town is a legacy breaker to be sure. I hope this might help your situation out.

@MeestorMark, thank you for letting me know about this.

He does not have the "Beloved" trait, but he does have the "Player" trait from the other love-related aspiration. I wonder if the two traits could have similar effects. Thank you!

I haven't read anything about the "Player" trait being bugged, nor have I experienced anything with my sim household with a sim that has it. But that "Beloved" trait is messing with a lot of seemingly disconnected things...

@MeestorMark, sorry, I was confused. When you said "Beloved" trait, I was thinking of "Companion."

I do know that the "Beloved" trait at least doesn't work. Someone on the EA Answer HQ observed that it works for the first sim that earns it, but when another sim earns it, it invalidates the trait in the prior sim. I am soooo frustrated about that problem. I spent about 4 sim-days earning that trait for 5 of my sims because it is so valuable -- all for nothing! So disappointing  >:(

Have you gone to the EA site and clicked "me too" yet? Here's the link: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4-Bug-Reports/Beloved-Trait-is-not-working/m-p/3487377/highlight/false#M1356

Hopefully we can put enough pressure on them/make enough kind requests to get it fixed quickly...

ANd now that I understand you correctly, yes, that sim does in fact have the Beloved trait. All of my sims age teen and above have it.
