Mouse glitch

I just installed TS4 for the first time  . At first everything was great but now I think I have a glitch affecting my mouse. Whenever I click on anything, the Rotate Camera icon appears and nothing happens - for instance, if I'm creating a sim I can't change clothes or go back to Personality Settings. I can't exit the game, or save, or create a new sim either. I had to exit via Task Manager actually.
So far I tried re-launching the game and restarting the computer... Again it works fine for a few minutes, but the glitch eventually comes back.
I'm running a brand new laptop that is above minimum requirements, with Windows 8.1... I'm new to this OS and I admit I'm struggling with it so please help me!

Check your settings make sure you don't have mouse trails on. If you do turn them off.

Also try playing in Windowed Fullscreen mode. Most people have said to have less issues in general that way

I just checked: Mouse Trails is not enabled, and playing Window Fullscreen didn't help either :/  I manage to play for about half an hour and then the mouse starts acting weird again. I also find it difficult to move around the game, even with TS3 settings enabled. At least Window Fullscreen mode lets me save and exit normally though. I'm wondering if my mouse is actually the problem, but I don't have another one at hand to try that theory.

Hi Eris,

Maybe you could try borrowing another mouse, or buy another mouse to test with - just to make sure the mouse you have isn't going bad.

Otherwise, if it's a wireless mouse, try changing the battery. Also, try moving the mouse to a different USB port (or the receiver if it's a wireless).
