TSM: Become Head of a Different Territory?

Is it possible for a hero to become head of a different territory, like Tredony and the others?

Is it possible for a spawned npc like children?

I've married my monarch to the merchant princess of Tredony. When she dies, I'd like one of my monarch's children to become merchant prince/ss.

Is this possible?

So I tried it. And the answer is no.

When the head of another territory dies, they are replaced by a random npc.
