Guitar
« on: September 18, 2014, 12:43:58 PM »
Metro has given me the Guitar Skill for publication. I like the article, but not so much what I'm reading about Guitar. Things are more balanced now and it's harder to earn gobs of money with the skill, although I'll say that I agree with him in that excitement is turned down with the tips being a flat amount. I do wish a developer would read his recommendations to make the skill a bit more exciting, and especially the aspiration milestone requirement of mentoring 15 Sims in Guitar - that seems incredibly difficult. If any of you have suggestions for how this might be done, do let us know and we'll get on it. I myself haven't used the skill much yet, but trust his info.

With regard to mentoring, you need to have other people in the household -- at least one, but more is preferable. You don't need another guitar, as the mentor doesn't use an instrument while mentoring.

Great article, by the way! And most of it also holds true for the violin.

Its almost impossible to do all instruments mentoring if you play single player household.  Townies just don't pull out their instruments and play, and you can't mentor them if they aren't playing.  If you play 2 person household, then mentoring is 100% easier as you can control the 2nd sim.

So you can just do the same Sim over and over?

Yes.  As long as the target sim doesn't reach max level (of the skill you are mentoring), you can mentor the same sim over and over again.

Yeah it's just frustrating, because townies in Bridgeport in Sims 3 just randomly started playing drums, guitar or piano. I do not feel like I should have to have a 2 player house to finish an Aspiration involving mentoring but I guess that's the way it would appear.

Thanks for the clarification, I'll try to edit the page a bit later to reflect that. Unless it's a family aspiration, I don't think another Sim should be required... but I guess that is moot.

When I have my sims places with instruments people randomly play them. The solar lounge has a violin. The museum has a piano. I know the one bar has a piano but I can't remember the name. The key is to socialize around the instruments sims like to clump together.

Also a side note families I played and left instruments in their inventory also tend to randomly play anywhere even if I am not playing the family. So if you miss the random music everywhere swap house and throw some instruments in their inventories.
