My First Uninstall/Reinstall
« on: October 26, 2010, 04:52:27 PM »
At long last, I'm going to have to do this, and I'm nervous.

I can't find instructions for how to uninstall Fast Lane.

Once I get everything reinstalled, will the launcher patch all of these up to the present patch: base game, HELS, World Adventures, Ambitions, Fast Lane? Or will I have to do updates incrementally and manually?

Here are the files I'm setting aside as backup: Saves, Library, InstalledWorlds, Custom Music, Downloads.
Can I just replace those folders after reinstalling?

My HELS was downloaded from EA. Will there be a problem re-downloading it?

At least on the Mac side of things, no. I just install base > WA > HEL > Ambitions > FL and then would launch FL and get the patch notice that my game needs to be updated. That single patch I download will include all fixes from previous patches.

On the Windows side, the launcher will prompt you with each installation that you must update before continuing.

To uninstall Fast Lane, just use Control Panel and Remove Programs.

Make sure you have all of your product code numbers when you're ready to reinstall.  You should be able to download HELS from EA the same as when you downloaded it initially.

It's easiest to set aside the Sims 3 folder, which contains all the folders you mentioned.  When the game is reinstalled, just place that Sims 3 folder back where you found it and it shoud be ok.

Good luck!

Yeah, this took all day to do, but it's done (I think). I ended up just using Auslogic BoostSpeed's Uninstall, Registry Cleanup, and Registry Defrag rather than following all the EA instructions and making changes to all the registries. My store downloads appeared in the launcher, but they were easy to reinstall once there.

Thanks!
