How do I get an adult to read to a kid?

My child has the Whiz Kid aspiration, and one of the first tasks is "Be Read to by an Adult for 3 Hours" - I can't figure out how to get either an adult to read to him, or him to ask them to do so. I've tried giving each of them a book, and the option doesn't come up on either book, it's not under Friendly interactions, it's not on the bookcase...

Help?

Okay so I got it to come up with an adult clicking on a book that was on a table. Maybe the book in the inventory can't be read to a child? The one on the table was "Lord of the Swings"

lol @ Lord of the Swings, the book titles really make me laugh even some of the extra skilling books are witty.

You need to have the adult sim selected, with a Children's book (which it should say whether it's a Children's book in the description of the book - if you don't have one, there are cheap ones available to buy). You select the Children's book and select the read to child option. It should work if it's in your inventory, but you can also read it when it's not in the inventory and just laying around.

This action is really annoying in my game. Even when I cancel the 'read to....' my mother sim still sits down and reads the book out loud. Then it stays in her queue and doesn't go away till I travel somewhere. Thank goodness she only needed to read to a kid three times. Any more and I would have sold all the books!
