Question that's been beaten to death: moving
« on: August 22, 2014, 09:54:13 PM »
Before registering I viewed numerous posts regarding moving Sims and controlling households. I find typical by-the-book game play options, cheats, etc. I can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for, or maybe there have just been so many different answers that I can't keep it all together.

My Sim family has 2 parents and 6 kids. Obviously, I'm at my single-household limit. The eldest child has finally become a Young Adult. He is courting a young woman, and I would like for them to eventually get married and- of course- have their own household. That being said, I want to be able to control them WHILE STILL controlling the remaining 7 Sims in the original house.

Now, as I have read before, you simply can't control two different houses and the same time. You have to switch active households. I know how to switch them, but I DO NOT want to lose any progress, inventory, or wishes for ANY of my Sims.

I have read about story progression being turned on and off, as well as age progression. If I were to turn off story progression mode, and switch the active household to the eldest child's potential new home, will I lose the aforementioned items in my original home of 7 remaining Sims?

If I turn off S-P-M, will my eldest Sims' son be able to have his own children?

I need to know if this is at all possible the way I want it. Can I put my 7 in a stasis (keep all their money, inventory, wishes, achievements) while I build the life of my Sims' son? Himming and hawing will only break my little heart =[

Hi and welcome to our Forum.

The only way I can think of to keep your original household intact like you describe would be like this:

1.  Save the original household to the bin.
2.  Move out the oldest son into a house of his own.
3.  Play second household as you wish.
4.  Before switching back to the original household, take the saved one out of the bin and put it down in the town in place of the household that has been aging and progressing.

The one drawback that I can't think of a way to get around is the part about losing wishes.  When you switch families, no matter what else you've done, you're going to lose the existing wishes.  However, skills and everything else should remain intact.  Hmmm...  except maybe relationships.  I've never actually done this, so I'm just thinking of what might work.  You can always save an extra copy of your game (which you should always do anyway) and go back to it if all of this doesn't work.

On the other hand, if you turn off aging and story progression, it might do the same thing.  And again with losing the wishes.

I think others will probably be along who can offer more advice, as well.  I'm sorry I'm not more help.

You could use Save As to make a new game, and in one game control the new family, and in the other control the original family.
