Question about how to mod

How do I mod my sims game to add create a sim accessories/clothes safely and easily? I play the sims 3 from steam, and I'm not sure if it needs different mods or can use the same mods as downloading the sims 3 game from the Electronic Arts/Origin website and such.

Forgot to mention that I am using an old windows 10 computer, so it should help with knowing how to help

The Sims 3 operates the same on both Steam and Origin and that includes with modding. Follow our tutorial on making a Mods folder and most people start with NRaas' mods and branch out from there.
