Can I keep my house when moving to a new town?
« on: July 23, 2014, 09:45:24 PM »
Hi, I can't find an answer to my question, possibly I've missed it.  I'd like to move a sim to another town along with his house as well to continue her collection projects.  Can this be done?  I have always used the bins to move from town to town, but I found that the collection log loses some of the collected items.  ie-bugs and IP scuba ocean life.  I'd like to see her keep the log and I thought if I moved the sim to another town with her home, the log would remain intact.  However, when I tried to move, she left her home only to have to buy another one in the new town.  I didn't notice any option for taking the house with her.  I didn't save the game.  Is it possible to keep the house or should I just keep using the bins.

No, you can't move the house.

What you could do, is save the house to the bin, then move your sim to the new town and put the house on an empty lot. That way, you get both. :)

Thanks.   That's what I've always done in the past.  I was hoping this move to another town would solve my collection dilemma.
By using the bins, they lose credit for all their sculptures and things they've built and the ability to view them.  Things that they've collected disappear from the log book.  Aw well, it was worth a try.  I tested with a generic sim and moved her to 3 towns and her collection log didn't stay intact anyway.  Guess I'll have to live with that one.  I was hoping this would work as I'd like to collect everything from all the towns and of course certain things can only be found in certain towns.  I keep the collection things in one of the treasure bins from WA.  At least she's got proof of collection.

This is not my forte, I'm not a sculptor or a collector. But, could you put the things you want to keep in your family inventory and then move? I know it only hold so much so I wasn't sure if that was a good idea or not...?

I think you missed what I suggested.

Save the HOUSE to the bin, and then use the real estate -> move to new town option to move your sim... then place a copy of your house.

That should preserve all your sims stats, while allowing you to have a copy of the house.

Sorry, I did miss that.  I'll give it a try with a generic sim.  Maybe the log would remain intact.  Thanks.  However,  I have always used the bins for moving.  My normal method is to save the 'family with house', 'family only' and 'house only' to the bins, (all options in case of disaster) pick another town and plunk the 'house with family' in.  But even then I lose the viewing option.   I believe that if I use the method you suggest, the house would be like a new house to the sim and again the objects like her statues wouldn't give her the credit or allow for viewing them.
I have in the past put things in the family inventory, but the log still didn't remain intact.  I can keep all the objects, no problem.  It's just that the log book goes grey on some of the bugs and all the ocean collectables and with a move to another town, the view option disappears also.
I may keep on like I've been doing.  It just would have been nice to see everything built with credit, collected and logged with all viewing options.  A complete history.
I appreciate the ideas and help.
