Self-Employed Meets Skill Opportunities
« on: September 20, 2010, 03:49:52 AM »
I learned something about painting today, and am hoping others will chirp in with more info about other skills.

My self-employed, Ambitious Painter was offered a skill opportunity to paint 10 paintings for the corporate office decor. I knew 10 paintings would push her self-employment career up a level, and she was getting a negative moodlet for not progressing fast enough. The quandary was whether to sell the 10 paintings at the consignment shop or satisfy the opportunity. I estimated that I should get close to $10,000 for the paintings and took a chance on the opportunity, instead of toward career gain. With the Opportunist LTR, she was given $60,000 for the 10 small paintings! I don't think I'll waffle on this particular decision next time!

Very smart move. There's a couple painting opportunities — the Business of Decor and painting the City are the ones that come to mind — that essentially have no equal in the game. They are simply the bomb for potential money earned. If you only pack Brilliants and Masterpieces in the inventory for delivery, the painter has Extra Creative, is lvl 10, and has the Opportunistic reward...it just gets sick. We're talking 200-300k potential.

Thanks for telling me that! I just got the Moodlet Manager for my artist. Translation: she'll be handcuffed to the easel until she gets that other opportunity you mention! Yes, she's got Extra Creative and Opportunistic. :) Shall I go with Medium or Large paintings at this point? She's Supermaxed Painting, despite not being in a dynasty.

The downside of going Large canvas is that is will take much longer to knock out the painting challenges — and all of those assist with net profit. But, if you've got the patience, just do Large canvas because each one you finish is figured into the base value of the finished product. The more, the better.

She's already got the challenges met, and is working her way up the self-employment career. I can see why stockpiling large brilliant/masterpieces would net bigger payoff for opportunities.

Did your sim have the Opportunistic LTR?  That reward makes a huge difference to the value of those painting opportunities.  It's always one of the first LTRs I get for my painters.

Probably I already had my lifetime wish and that was on like the 600th day because I had aging off. The account is deleted now because my friend was playing on it for a little while and he saved it when I got a child in the time machine and I can't stand children in the game because of the weird graphics glitch.
