Vertical sync and frozen artifacts in frames?
« on: July 12, 2014, 05:07:22 PM »
I've turned vertical sync and triple buffering on via the Nvidia control panel for my GTX 760, and now the fps under the Sims 3 says it's holding stable at 60.  But I noticed on the 4th level of my houseboat, there are now floating frozen artifacts hovering in the frame.  Namely, there's one end table that seems to be floating in 4 places around the screen.  I tried deleting the cache files and restarting, but I still see the same thing.  I've also tried the adaptive vertical sync option instead of forcing vertical sync on.  Does anyone know why this may be happening?  Thank you!

Turn off vSync and Triple buffer in your control panel.

Turn ON vSync in The Sims 3.

Forcing driver-level (which is what you're doing in the nVidia control panel) enhancements can really screw things up.

Ah, vSync doesn't appear to be in The Sims 3 options.

Ok. Set The Sims 3 to use your windows default refresh rate and then set vSync ON in the nVidia control panel. Turn Triple Buffering off, or set to application controlled.

OpenGL can be very, very picky with Triple Buffering, so I leave it as App Controlled.

I just tried this, but the problem still exists.  I checked the last 2 saves of this game and they both have these frozen tables in the air, so are my files corrupt?  Though I thought the game only saves the data and the rendering is done to repopulate the cache files.  This wasn't here in those prior game saves or before I adjusted settings because I would have noticed the floating tables before now.

That sounds like a possible corrupt save.

What about doing testingcheatsenabled true and then see if you can shift-click the objects to move them?

If not, maybe try Nraas Debug Enabler. I know that has options to move things up and down.

They're not actual objects though that you can click on or move.  It's like an image was frozen in rendering in the frame in the air if that makes sense.  It's also kind of ghosted, but you can tell it's the table.

That's got to be a save issue then. You could try messing around with resolutions, turning windowed mode off and on... things like that. Only other thing I can think of might be to move your household to the library and maybe try putting them back in.

TBH, those houseboats are a nightmare though.
