Major jerky movement with moving the camera *Resolved*
« on: May 11, 2014, 08:26:03 PM »
This upsets me having to report this. :P But quite recently, I get nearly unplayable jerkiness/lag when moving the camera around. As in, it takes awhile to pan around and stuff while using the mouse.
It seems to only happen when I'm in house view. In Town view, it's fine. When not moving the camera and just playing the game, it's fine. It's only when I rotate the camera.
The strangest thing is, it doesn't do this when I have a Sim selected (meaning, viewing what that Sim is doing and the camera follows him) but when I move my mouse to deselect, it happens again.

EDIT: Ok. This is seriously weird. This turning lag, seems to only happen when a specific Sim is selected. Such as the wife of my household. All the other Sims (my main Sim, his son, and his pets; all created by me), don't do this. Only her. Now, this Sim was generated by NRass StoryProgression, and apparently it didn't think of giving her an Everyday outfit.
I tried giving her one, and that had seemed to work, until I flipped to one of the other Sims and then back to her, and it started happening again.
I tried resetting her. Doesn't fix it. Something about her, the game just doesn't like. Hmm... :o

I have tried everything. I've wiped out everything in the DCBackup file(except ccmerged.package), deleted the specified .package files in the The Sims 3 folder, set all of my graphics settings to the lowest possible, tried turning off unnecessary programs on my computer, and restarted.
Yet it persists. Why? I have more than enough RAM for this thing. Is it my GPU bottlenecking my computer again?

Now for my DxDiag, I read youall don't allow it to be uploaded, only pasted in here. Well I tried and it said I exceeded the character limit. So, how should I do this?

I'll try giving my specs, if that helps;
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, SP 1
CPU: AMD FX 4350
GPU: NVIDIA Geforce GTS 250
RAM: 8GB
Bought TS3/EP's through: Origin

Mods or CC?: I am using mods(all up to date). No CC. Here's my mod list.
Expansions/Stuff Packs I have installed;
World Adventures
Ambitions
Late Night
Town Life Stuff Pack
Pets
Seasons
Island Paradise

When did you last uninstall/reinstall the game: About 2 months ago. Reinstalled every EP in release order.
What were you doing at the time of the issue: I was working on a house. Had finished it(it was for my family). Moved them in, no problem. Then yesterday I went to play, made no changes to my game, and noticed how hard it was to move the camera around, like my computer was getting sluggish. I tried quitting and getting back in, and everything I said above. Still happens. Just really jerky.
Is your game up to date? What is your current version?: Yes, it's up to date. I'm using 1.67.2.024017 according to the launcher.

Hi Benie,

It sounds like you've tried a few things I was going to suggest. Out of curiosity have you tried doing a factory rest? = Copy your Sims 3 folder to the desktop. Rename your current Sims 3 folder to something like Sims 3 Current. Click the Sims 3 icon to create a new Sims 3 folder. Then copy your game saves, files and such over to the new game to see if that helps. (This is different from a total-game reinstall - This just sets the game back to factory default.)

If you need to know what to save/backup. Have a look at this thread.

How To: Saving folders/files to use on a different computer or to use as backup
http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php/topic,16414.msg313134.html#msg313134

Run a register cleaner program. (Something like Ccleaner, It's free - http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download)
This helps clean up temporary files, internet cache files and other files that are left behind that are no longer being used, after uninstalling.

Ccleaner may not help with the camera problems. But it's something that maybe helpful anyway.

If you  have a game save that you've been playing for a 2+ months straight, it maybe a good idea to save the family/families and houses you've been playing and create a new game. This will help refresh the game.

If these tips don't seem to help, please post back and we'll see if we can come up with some more tips.

Have you tried emptying your Sims inventories?

@MrsFlynn. Thanks so much for your response. I will do your suggestions and let you know what happens.
@LivvieLove. The female Sim had a ton of Fish when she joined my family. Seems she's mastered in Fishing. I have cleaned out her inventory.
I had no idea having a lot of items in containers (my main Sim has a lot of stuff in a chest he got from China) can lag the game. I thought it was only visible objects. Like too much furniture, or too big of a house. Those kind of things. I guess it would make sense that contents in containers could cause lag.

Ok, now. I do want to point out, my original plan for this family was to move in with her, which worked. Except I found it was just too much house for me to stand. So I built a smaller one and moved them there through EA's standard move mechanic. Since then, only the female Sim causes jerky camera movement, yet none of the others do.
I haven't tried selecting another house and playing those Sims, and see if I get the same thing, just incase you all ask if I did.

Something about that house, my game doesn't like. Anyway, currently I'm defragging my drives with Defraggler. I'm hoping this will help. I'll also run CCleaner. If that doesn't, then I'll try the 'factory reset' option that MrsFlynn mentioned.

EDIT: Done with defragging and CCleaner, also rebooted. Trying to see if the problem is resolved or not. Not noticing any change in load times. My C drive was 13% fragmented.
No change. Problem not resolved. Still persists.

EDIT2: ... I got it. *facepalm* I just figured out the problem, and it was right under my nose. :-[ I had forgotten I had her go shopping and get lots of produce and books, and forgot to empty her inventory. I tried, and the severe turning lag stopped. ::) Wow. Just wow. Can't believe I didn't see that before.

At least it wasn't a serious issue that required me to reinstall. Thank you so much, Livvie. You helped me here. :)

Gardening, fishing, tomb collecting - that can cause lag because the things in your inventories. I remember I had an inventor at the start of a Life State's Dynasty that everything started to lag when she was selected (but it was fine when my camera was set on her and not me moving it around). I was completely blown away that after only a few weeks my game was already getting terrible lag. I decided to clear out her inventory and throw in the towel. I sold all the 1000s of scrap she had and suddenly - fixed!
Keep scrap in the scrapatonic workbench and keep excess fish/gardening/gems you need in chests. That's how I've cut down the lag. I now try to keep my Sims inventories as clean as possible and I have minimal lag caused by that now. :) Glad to hear it's resolved!
