Regarding owning multiple residential properties
« on: April 03, 2014, 01:44:24 PM »
I'm playing a family I created in the town of Riverview (on PC, not sure if that matters in this particular case). I had them living at 1040 Dogwood Lane, and when the residents of The Old Spenster Place at 550 Riverview Road died, I purchased it and did a little remodeling to fit my family of 6 (ugh triplets). I moved them over by clicking on the lot icon > real estate > move to this private lot. I then played for about 2 sim days and realized that I had left my garden plants to die, so I took my grade in sim over to tend and/or revive the plants I left.....and the Lobos family was now living there! I still have build/buy control and can walk in and use anything in the house with no trouble, but Marisol was standing in the garden when I got there which I thought was weird, and while I was there my car that I had left in the garage was missing, then later reappeared with Angel saying he was "going home". In town view it shows I own the lot, but when I go to edit in town it shows the lot as having the Lobos family in residence and gives me the option to switch to that family.

Has anyone else heard  of an NPC family moving into a house controlled by the playable sims?

Are you using Story Progression or Master Controller?  I believe that it allows you to have renters, but I haven't played around with the possibility yet myself.  Maybe someone else can answer that part of it, but definitely check settings if you have those mods.

I had planned to mention that I have awesome mod, but then I forgot. I don't have either of those though. I only have the base game, but the most recent patch (aside from one for some of my store content, apparently). This doesn't seem to be a rental situation because it doesn't give me any options as a landlord. I did a save as, but haven't gone to check my previous save to see if they were there then. I don't remember exactly when I saved last, but I was doing a bunch of renovating on the new place so I was saving often. It's likely that they were already there.

I've had sims own multiple homes before and this is a first, though granted I haven't been playing long this time around. (I used to play when the game was new but preferred TS2 and switched back. Giving 3 a second chance.)

*edited to add*
I checked my last saved game and they were already there then, so I can't get back to a time before they moved in. I switched households and there are a bunch of other glitchy things going on with the Loboses. Marisol is pregnant, but she doesn't seem to know it. Her baby bump is obvious and she's in maternity clothes, people can interact with her belly, but she has no pregnancy moodlet, she can't get checked out at the hospital, she's not getting any pregnancy related wishes, and she's still going to work.
She's stuck at 0 days to aging up to elder because of the pregnancy, but life fruit doesn't give her more time nor does it affect Angel's age (87, 88, 89 days old so far). This is odd. I'm glad these glitches aren't happening to my main game family.

I've not heard of this happening before and I've never had it happen to me and I often play with multiple properties.  If you're using Awesome Mod (I don't), you might consider contacting their website to see if it's a known issue with the mod.  Maybe try playing without the mod to see if the errors continue.  Are you able to move them out of the house in Edit Town?

Yes, I was able to evict them, but then they moved back in! The next thing I tried was to merge them with an existing household (one of their now grown up twins.. Anita, I think). I then remembered that they had their own car that had been added to the lot when they moved in. It was the only thing on the lot that wasn't there when my family had been living in that house and I don't know if that was drawing them back, but I sold it. So far so good this time. It has now been about 3-4 sim days and they moved again, but to a different house than mine. They are happily living at 509 Riverview road, and it seems Marisol was actually able to give birth and age up when I wasn't actively controlling their household. I was starting to get frustrated after I evicted them and yet it was still forcing my sim to leave the house when she was there in the middle of the night.

Ok, so now the Jones family (Aiden, Hannah, and a toddler named Darin) have moved into this house. I moved them into a nearby home, and they immediately returned. This is starting to get annoying.

Hm... I have to wonder if it's something to do with Awesome Mod.  Have you checked out their website?  Or googled the problem?

I would suggest removing Awesome Mod and see if the problem persists.  I've never used that mod but that could be the culprit.

This happened to me without mods.  I built a secondary residence for my sims, then I switched households because one of my NPC sims was dating Iqbal Alvi and I wanted to break them up (poor Iqbal gets no love in my games).  So I broke them up, kicked him out and switched back to the main household.  They tried to go to the secondary residence and Iqbal was living there!  xD  I ended up using Edit Town to move him back to his old house, then moved my sims into the secondary residence and got rid of the main one.

Have you tried selling the house in game, going into edit-town and moving the family out, then going back in game and immediately buying it back?

I have not sold the house before using edit town to kick them out. But after the second try kicking them out they stayed out, too, and my triplets grew up so I moved them out and am no longer playing the owners of this problem house. I might have just sold the house ages ago except that I got a little belligerent about strangers moving onto my property. :-)
