ADVENTURE: Knowledge of the Past

Hello all!
I do hope I am posting in the correct protocol. I have searched for this topic and found some about this adventure, but none about my specific problem.

I am stuck on the adventure that starts in China and sends you to France to find a keystone in Landgraab Chateau. My problem is that every time I go to France, the adventure disappears. The first time this happened, I tried to speak with the nectar merchant anyway, but there was no special option. I then attempted to go through the cellar without speaking to the nectar merchant, which was a bust, as I believe he gives you a keystone to enter the room.

I abandoned this game (I'm trying extremely hard to go through every adventure without cheats so I can collect all of the tomb symbols... because this will be oh-so satisfying to me  ) and started a new one and resolved that when I received the adventure again, I would save, save, save.

So I get this adventure again, eventually. I saved before I departed China for home. I saved at home a few times. I traveled to France and... the same thing happened again. I've reloaded it again and the same thing happens.

I am literally on the verge of TEARS because I cannot complete this adventure. Is it mods? Is it a bug? Is this something I can eventually complete once I work out the kinks? I mean, obviously other people have gotten past this stage in the adventure. What do I have to DO?

So far I've found the following in the guide:

Knowledge of the Past (From the China guide)
This adventure starts a very long chain that leads your Sim to France and eventually Chateau du Landgraab. Upon returning from France with the keystone to enter the Dragon's Maw (aka Temple of the Dragon), your Sim must reach level 10 of Martial Arts, break a space rock block and win a ranked sparring match to then take on Dong Huo. This one can be very long. Thankfully you will have enough time in France to complete the section of Chateau du Landgraab. Get inside the area and head to the Landgraab Cellar key door, which is oddly enough found in the tower accessible from the ground floor. There aren't any hard puzzles once inside the cellar area, but keep an eye out for hidden doors. Clearing this area will lead your Sim to a back exit and a great nectar cellar area where you can collect every type of grape. It's worth grabbing them if your Sim is a gardener or nectar maker. Along the way, keep an eye out for the Signet of Chateau du Landgraab, part of the French tombs collection.

Once in Champs Les Sims, discuss Sin Pah’s journal with the Nectar Merchant. You’ll be directed to “Ask About Vaughan Affair” to Francois Lambert. Find him on your map and get friendly with him before asking about the affair. Francois wants a piece of opal before he’ll help you out. Find it on the map and deliver it to him. You’ll get Next up: explore the vault underneath Landgraab Chateau.
