unable to interact with unstable sim

My child sim aged to teen with the Unstable trait, I've never had this trait come up before so this is completely new to me.
When the teen got the 'out of sorts' moodlet I am unable to click on them and bring up any options AND no other sim is able to interact with them either. I can direct the sim to do things, but can't self-click.
This can't be normal when it comes to the Unstable trait, becuase I've read that you must self-click and get them to blow in a paper bag to stop the out-of-sorts moodlet. Ive tried restarting the sim and moving them in and out (this breaks the moodlet and I can interact with the sim again- but is a bit beside the point). If i send the sim to the hospital and get rid of the moodlet then they are back to being normal and interactive again. But I kinda wanted to see what the unstable trait was like and don't want to be sending the sim to the hospital ever other morning!

Any hint and tips to deal with this problem?

Specifically gave one of my legacies kids the unstable trait and it's interesting to say the least. Seen her talk to herself in the mirror but that may because she also has the insane trait...
Generally, or at least in my case, my sim will be out of sorts, i'll let her use the paper bag and send her to the hospital if it's too far advanced for the bag to help.
Been having fun letting the traits reset, but if i want to keep one on her i like, i'll take her to the hospital for the cure.
Although i've never had the problem of not being able to direct her though even WHEN out of sorts. Always played like a normal sim so far. You do the Reset sim? Maybe that will help. Sounds like a glitch to me.
