General Impressions of Traveler Mod?
« on: March 18, 2014, 02:18:55 AM »
I'm debating whether to get the Traveler Mod.  I have looked at the Nraas site, read the FAQ and checked out the interactions page as well.  One question I have is this: I want to be able to move my current Legacy family to another town to help a bit with file bloat.  But I kinda like the idea of the family tree still being intact and possibly being able to go back to the original town.  But I'm wondering if that would actually help with bloat or not and am just generally curious to hear any kind of impressions/stories/other anecdotes about the mod before I decide to add it to my collection.

Moving towns via Traveler preserves the original world, which doesn't exactly help with file size. So whether you think that preserving the old town is worth the file size or not is up to you. However, I don't really have any anecdotes when it comes to moving with Traveler. I used it so my sims could vacation in any town. :P

Hm, I see.  Hehehe, yeah, that's more why I wanted it, is mostly to be able to go vacation in Isla Paradiso or to Hidden Springs.  The fourth gen just became a toddler in game but I'm already experiencing a bit of lag and freezing every so often.  I'm not sure if it's the mods or if it's some of the other things I've been reading about, like maybe stuck sims, or other things.  Might need to get OverWatch and ErrorTrap just to keep things running smoothly if I don't reduce file size.

I would highly recommend both. Overwatch will run a check once every sim day at about 3 a.m. to recover missing sims, fix any stuck sims, turn off stereos and televisions, and remove any vehicles, so there is a good chance that this will drastically reduce the lag you have been experiencing.

Thanks for the tip Raia ^^  What about ErrorTrap?  I've done some reading on it, but what does that do that OverWatch doesn't?

ErrorTrap looks for glitches and errors happening in the game and attempts to correct them. It's a wonderful mod and it does often help with performance.

The traveler mod has helped me quite a bit.  Here is how: I no longer have missing items from  personal inventory, no invisible active sims, no routing issues in Egypt or anywhere else in that matter.
However there is a drawback. For some reason in my vacation homes, I get the paper delivered by creepy bodiless children. The towns need fixing at first because they become exposed to ageing and weather, which means that you need to micro manage them to some extent to keep the neighbourhood tidy. (snow in The desert? Really?) Friends suddenly turn elder and that's just weird to occur that suddenly. I painstakingly manually fixed it for China and France, but gave up in Egypt, which I just age and weather froze. But you know watching the friends you make while on holidays age along with your sim and have children and so forth is quite touching, so I do find myself going to France a lot because there is so much room for me to plonk down houses that I let the town grown,so  at the end it's up to you, and your gameplay.

Oh and one more thing, forget keeping anything in the fridge . It will be gone by the time you get back, food with soil in any chest, but you can keep produce intact in them, so there is that!  :) hope this helps!
