Stuck Sim

I have a Sim (actually my 4 year old son's Sim) who used to work fine until I updated but now is stuck in bed and won't wake up (and if I leave him gradually starves to death).  Very basic Sim, no significant life events, we've only really got as far as a job and basic cooking skills.

I also cannot get the panel at the right to open out.

I have no mods (since the last update) and no cheats used at all.

Is there something I can do to unstick him?

You can try the reset sim cheat, if you haven't already.

press Ctrl-shift-c, type in "resetsim Firstname Lastname" and enter (without the quotes)

Reset the sim and replace the bed.
