How do I get abducted or visited by aliens?

I also think it's random. Every household I play, there are at least two abductions every sim week. Sometimes it's the same sim while other times different sims that are being abducted. And none of my abducted sims had any particular interest in telescopes or space rocks. Nowadays I get really annoyed because it disrupts my sims' skilling. So I just use resetsim while the sim gets forced to look at the ufo, enabling me to continue with what my sims were doing.

Is there a really good way to increase the chance that my Sim will get abducted? Or at least have an alien visit the house at night?

Oh, thanks. So, collect space rocks, leave them around on the lot, stargaze with the telescope? Around 12:00 to 3:00 AM? Should that do it?

It worked! I used the advice from here and Carl's Seasons Aliens guide, and my guinea pig (Christopher Steel) was abducted! He collected five space rocks that day, put them around in his yard, looked through the telescope I got for him that day, then later that night stargazed from 12:00 to 3:00. At 3:00 he went to 'Investigate Mysterious Anomaly'. Eventually, Ryan Steel was born.
