Strange breast shape?
« on: February 04, 2014, 01:38:31 PM »
Well, I didn't think I'd ever make a forum topic anywhere called "Strange breast shape." That's a new one. Anyway...

I just installed Sims 3 with the Supernatural expansion, and I'm not sure if I'm having a problem or not. I was playing around with making different sims, and I noticed that the breasts on female Sims look a little... oddly shaped. It's pretty obvious even from a distance:

It varies in intensity with the clothing, but on anything remotely form-fitting, the chest is like, flat, and then the breasts suddenly jut out at an almost 90-degree angle. On some clothing, it also looks like the clothes cling to the breasts to an absurd degree, like the clothes are painted on. The black leather top from the pictures is from the Sims 3 store, and I showcased it because it's the one that seems to have it the worst, but it's present on other clothing as well.

They look a lot more natural in CAS:

When I had this game before, I don't remember them looking like this, but it could be my imagination. Is this normal, or is it a glitch?

I have all the graphic detail settings on their highest, and I've reset the game after setting them. I haven't tried re-installing anything yet, I want to see if there's a known fix (or if it's even anything that needs fixed) before I go through all that hassle.

Your pictures aren't showing up, and I removed the spoiler tags surrounding your pictures, because they are not needed.

Oh, sorry. I usually put spoiler tags around large images for ease of readability, but I won't do it here anymore. Do you see the pictures now?

Still don't see them. I'll try another web browser.

EDIT: That didn't work either.

EDIT 2: It seems that Photobucket is down entirely. I checked some other threads that have Photobucket-hosted images, and those are down too. So wait it out, I guess.

I've never run into this problem. So I'm not sure what could be causing it. However I would suggest backing up your saved game and trying playing a new test game to see if it happens in that game as well or not.

You didn't mention if you were playing with 3rd party custom content (items not made by EA) So if you're playing with 3rd party CC, check the play without CC in the launcher to see if that helps.

No third-party content. Just the base game, Supernatural, and a couple items I got from the store.

What exactly do you mean by "test game?" Do I need to take out all of the save data or something?

Lastly, two things I forgot to mention; First, I tried to install the base game on my computer a long time ago, but the disc I used was too damaged to install, so it never installed all the way. It did, however, leave a bunch of files on my computer, which I deleted yesterday. I suppose there could still be files hidden somewhere, so if there's something I should try deleting, please point me to it. I don't have any important game saves on my computer yet either, so I don't need to worry about backing anything up.

Second, while I was installing Supernatural (after installing and updating the base game), it said that the version I was installing was out of date, and would need to be updated in order to be fully compatible. However, once it installed and I opened the launcher, I don't think I was ever prompted to update, and the launcher says my game is completely up to date. I might have actually updated it without remembering, though, as I can log into my account in-game, which it doesn't let you do if you are not up to date.

Other info: my game version is 1.67.2.024001, and I'm using Mac OS 10.7.5.

To basically create a new game. Or you can try a factory reset

-- Rename your current Sims 3 folder to something like Sims 3 Current. Click the Sims 3 icon to create a new Sims 3 folder. Then copy your game saves, files and such over to the new game to see if that helps. (This is different from a total-game reinstall)

If you're unsure how or what to save, see this thread --
How To: Saving folders/files to use on a different computer or to use as backup
http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php/topic,16414.msg313134.html#msg313134

I'm sorry, but I can't help much with the install part of problem as I don't know anything about Mac computers. However, it does look like you're patched up to the current patch level.

So going off that, plus what you said earlier having base game, Supernatural, some store stuff and no 3rd party CC. It may mean that something went wrong during install? But don't quote me on that.

Try creating a new game or factory reset to see if that helps. It's one of the first things I try when my game has any glitches or acts odd.

Ok, I tried to do a factory reset, and nothing changed, though I'm not sure I did it right. That aside, I then decided to uninstall the game and delete every file from the game I could find. I actually found a bunch of "EP02" related files, from my failed installation of Ambitions years ago. I reinstalled the base game, and reinstalled my downloaded content (because that was the stuff that had the most obvious problems.) I put all of the detail options all the way up, restarted the game, and the problem was still there. Breasts are strangely shaped, and clothes are too clingy in the chest area.

Now, it's possible that it's supposed to look that way, and I'm just imagining things. It looks really strange to me though, and it looks different and better in CAS. I don't remember Sims ever looking any different between CAS and gameplay.

EDIT:

Since Photobucket apparently isn't working, we'll try a different image hosting service. They're thumbnails, click on them to see them bigger, this is was the best I could do on short notice.

In-game:

CAS:

EDIT2: Oh yeah, one more thing. When I launch the game, it says there's a new patch for my Sims 3 store content. (It's not just the new content that has the problem, though.) When I say to download it, it doesn't do anything, but if I refresh and tell it to download enough times, eventually a box saying "Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000038 at address 0x100613b0.
Do you wish to debug it ?" comes up, and when I say yes, the launcher quits and nothing happens.

Thank you for posting what steps you've already tried, that's very helpful!! :)

It definitely looks strange to me too. Hmm.. Just out of curiousity, can you take the Sim into CAS and play with the breast sliders to see if that helps?

This might sound stupid, by have you tried resetting the whole town, in Edit Town mode - Press Shift-Ctrl-C keys together to bring up cheat console and then type in resetsim *
(resetsim FirstName LastName to reset individual Sims)

Hopefully it the cheat console works the same way on a Mac as it does on a PC?

I'm not sure this will help with the strange breast shape, but have you tried running a registery cleaner after you uninstalled and then reinstalled the game?

A registry cleaner helps clean up temporary files, internet cache files and other files that are left behind that are no longer being used, after uninstalling.

I'm not entirely sure what to do about the launcher. I don't have any store content installed right now, and it still says it wants to install the store content patch, even though I said yes to install it a few days ago.

Ooooh wait!! Thank you for posting the error message. Did a search on it and maybe found something to look over.

I hope some of this is helpful. Please post back to let us know if it works or not?

That's how breasts look with the breasts slider maxed out... Some tops flatten them a bit because of the mesh and some make them pointier. *shrugs*

After trying everything that has been suggested to me, plus the fact that no one else seems to have ever complained about it, I'm thinking now that it's just a quirk of the way certain clothes cause the Sims' body to be mapped, not a fixable "glitch." It doesn't matter a whole lot; I don't plan on making a lot of Sims with ridiculously large chests.

I did get my "downloaded content" updated, whatever that was about, so hopefully I can begin playing without any further problems. Thanks everyone!

I did some more searching last night after my last post and found something that might ?? help. Do you have the Store world Monte Vista? As it sounds like having it installed or what-not makes the breast deformed, even on regular base game clothes.

Here's the link I found and the suggested tip. It's from 2012. But the "glitch" might still be around?

Subject: Re:Breast issue after install of Monte Vista?
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/621978.page

Procon in the Sims3 Forum suggests (a little past the halfway point of the page.)

As a workaround, try going to the hospital for 'plastic surgery' where you can makeover all your Sim's physical features in CAS. Hopefully that will let you correct their assets to look normal again.

So if you have Monte Vista installed, you could maybe try the tip to see if it helps?
