Ambrosia: Can I gift to my mates?

I have 20-some friends in Sims 3 and I would like to know if I could send a Sim to the mailbox with ambrosia in his/her inventory and gift it to a couple of me mates. Can you gift ANYTHING from your inventory?

I am afraid you can't send ambrosia to friends.  Random gifts and potions are about the only thing you can gift someone by clicking on the mailbox.
