Saving taking a ridiculously long time to complete
« on: May 19, 2014, 09:02:28 PM »
I'm sure this hasn't been the first time an issue like this has been reported. But saving my game has gotten to the point where it's painful to watch. I've had to endure up to 6 minutes of saving, with a minute and a half being the norm.

I blame StoryProgression for most of it. The thing is, saving seems to take the longest when traveling and especially in tombs, and when I first traveled to these places, I told StoryProgression to not enable.
Say I get close where I feel there's going to be a mummy encounter. I save. And it saves, and saves, and saves, .... and saves.... and saves some more... waiting 3 minutes, still saving. Then finally it finishes.
Loading a save, nomatter which save I pick(if it's a new save or not), takes around 3 minutes (I counted). This is ... I really have no words. I'm just hoping for more than "get rid of all of your mods and it'll fix the problem" as my solution, as some of these mods I need. Overall, I don't really have that many mods. And I have no CC. Do notice my memory usage can be as high at 68%.
Also, it doesn't matter if I completely quit my game and then load a save and then save later, as it still takes a long time.
I assume my save is bloated. I tried wiping out all memories from every townie when I had them on. It doesn't help to lessen the problem. Save just seems to be getting more bloated.

I'll try clearing out my cache files, yet it never helped in the past. I shouldn't have to be tortured by 3+ minute save/load times. If it helps, my main save file is 4.26 GB.
Added Note: I've also closed out unnecessary programs. Doesn't help speed the save/load times up.

Another Note: I notice when it does save, instead of doing what most games do which is to edit the files it needs to, to apply the save, it either removes the entire folder and/or the contents of the folder and slowly regenerates each single one. Any reason why it stupidly does this? Or is the save system as stupid as the game's Sims, who, the wife Sim yells at the husband Sim for being in the way of the sink to use it, and can't see there's another sink next to him that's not being used?

Specs;
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, SP 1
CPU: AMD FX 4350
GPU: NVIDIA Geforce GTS 250
RAM: 8GB

Mods or CC?: I am using mods(all up to date). No CC. Here's my mod list.
Expansions/Stuff Packs I have installed;
World Adventures
Ambitions
Late Night
Generations
Town Life Stuff Pack
Pets
Seasons
Island Paradise

When did you last uninstall/reinstall the game: About 2 months ago. Reinstalled every EP in release order.
What were you doing at the time of the issue:
As I said before, I can be doing a temple. I could be not and doing other stuff. When when trying to save, it takes forever.

Is your game up to date? What is your current version?: Yes, it's up to date. I'm using 1.67.2.024017 according to the launcher.

Hi Benie,

It takes only about 3 minutes from clicking the play button to fully loaded to your saved game? If so, Wow!! That's actually not bad at all. My previous computer would take 5 minutes to load from play button to loading saved game and thought that was pretty good timing with all expansions, stuff packs and store content, plus a few Nraas mods, that are a must. :)

A question does come to mind though, if you've been playing the same family or same saved game. Trying saving off the family. Start a new game and try playing the family in the new game. Does it load/save faster or better? If so, you may need to look at the family's inventory and personal inventories - delete what's not needed.

Hope this helps,

MrsFlynn

I did try something that you didn't suggest. I noticed how really large this 'TravelerDB.package' file was; over 1.7GB. Read that this has memory data and data of immigrants coming to your town and vica versa. It's also safe to delete.

Deleting this made saving as fast as it does back home, which is a minute and a half. Still, wish why the save does what it does, which isn't overriding your save with the new data, but regenerating all files. Just seems really stupid.
I am glad to hear that it taking 3 minutes to load is normal.

Just to compare, my game (week 2, day 2) took 5.5 minutes to load.  :)

Benie, you think you got problems?? Haha! My bridgeport town was taking so long to save (an hour) I just would give up and kill the process. No matter what I did or tried it would not save, but I didn't get an error code. Just basically freezing up. The worst thing is, on the task manager it said it was still running, not *NOT* responding! Finally I used a backup save and got rid of automatic memory saving, killed some townies, towed some derelicts, deleted the clogged inventory, and family inventory, turned off the weather, saved as instead of save and it actually saved!!

Im stunned but I'm skeptical. My town is still swarming with people on the streets and I'm coming to the point where I'm considering destroying all NCPs and limiting the number that can spawn. I even turned off story progression! Why are the stupid things running amok! *shrug*
Although my user name is male, I am in fact a woman! Its the name of an old sim I used to play.

I disabled memories early on in my TS3 playing days. It seemed pretty useless to me. It was amazing how many pictures I had of the roof.

Disabling memories works wonders. It halved my save time.
