Sliders for age lengths in options is not moving

I was going to change the length of the ages for my sims in the options, but for some reason the sliders won't move.  It seems to be stuck on the default, which I don't want anymore.

Any suggestions, ideas on the cause and on how to fix it?   I have tried several different things, changed settings in other areas, checked the other sliders in the other areas, such as lunar stage, and they don't have a problem, so not sure why this is happening.

Hi Janna,

Load any saved game, then go into options and make sure aging is turned on. Then the sliders should be active.

I've run into this problem a couple of times, realized I wasn't in a saved game. Once in a saved game, then viewed options, I found I could tweak some of the things I couldn't outside of being in-game.

I went back in and tried it as I had before, started up the game, didn't load a saved game, just went straight to options.  No go, still couldn't get the sliders to move.

Then tried loading a saved game, as suggested, and had no problem in moving the sliders.  I thought you had to be out of the games to move the sliders.  It has been so long since I messed with them that I guess I had forgotten.
