Can't go "Into the future"

The time travel dude didn't come out for like an hour so I deleted that portal and got another one. He still wont come out. Other forums say I need a Sim w/ advanced technology to check it. I got a prosperity tree to see if I can get advanced technology from that, but I don't even know if I can get it from that tree. Any other ways to get advanced technology, or is there another way to go Into the Future?

Actually, from what I have read, there appears to be a bug that WILL NOT let you "Inspect Portal" if your Advanced Technology skill is over 3. That's unsubstantiated, but it's what I've heard. Have you activated the portal, i.e., is it glowing?

If that's not it, it sounds to me like there's something wrong with your game, whether there's a problem with your install, the Sim, the time traveler, or the portal. I don't have any advice for you there.

If you need advanced technology you can go into buy mode and buy a Windcarver and use it to get around, buy a holodisc and talk to, clean and feed your holo pet, buy a dream pod and dream.  All these things will increase your technology level.

As SigBab said, the portal needs to be activated and you should be able to summon the Time Traveler.  What exactly happens when you click on the portal?
