Can't install sims 3

Hello

I've tried installing sims 3 for the very first time and it's not working. I put the cd in and the autorun
Menu appears. You can either click on Help or Install. So I click install and then select the drive I want to install it in. I then press ok and it takes me to the origin log in page. I've never had an origin account so I click Create An Account. There are no options that say don't install origin. It then says cannot connect to Origin.

I am connected to the Internet. I think I've got Windows XP but can double check if needed. I've seen on other websites that you can install the sims without origin but no one says how. I cannot work out how. Never had a problem installing Sims and Sims 2 on same computer. It would usually go straight to the autorun page and I could install the game from there. Please help as I cannot play the game : (

Welcome to our Forum.

Maybe try creating your Origin account before trying to install the CD.  That doesn't sound like the solution even to me, but there will be more technical minded people coming around soon, I'm sure.

Hi Ele,

We recently reinstalled Sims 3 on Hubby's computer using the disc version and didn't run into any problems with Origin. I did let him know of your post to see if he might be able to help.

Installing Sims 3 shouldn't interfere with Sims 1 or 2.

You may want to try running a register cleaner program. (Something like Ccleaner -  http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download) This helps clean up temporary files, internet cache files and other files that are left behind that are no longer being used.
 
Also maybe try disk cleanup and defrag. As they maybe helpful to do as well.

Restart your computer and then start reinstalling your Expansions and Stuff packs, let the installer patch as you go.  Start with The Sims 3 Base Game and go from there.

It seems odd to me that you are being prompted to create an origin account. I suppose if you bought it recently (recently meaning within the last two or so years ) though, it'd prompt you to get Origin instead of the EA Download Manager. This might be why MrsFlynn didn't get the same problem. MrsFlynn, did you purchase Sims 3 back when EADM was used (any time from 2009-2011ish)? Unfortunately if this is the reason, a smaller amount of us would be able to help (but of course, there will be people who can).

We bought each expansion/stuff pack shortly after each were released. So we have original discs, and not any re-printed discs. It's possible newer printings have different installers?

But then it would seem we'd run into this with Into the Future though. We didn't run into any problems with the install. Game installed just fine. Loads and runs good too.

Exactly my hypothesis. I think that when you bought the original game, you were in the same situation as me -- in 2009, instead of Origin, EA used the EADM, which we downloaded and used.

However, if elephant1 bought the disc very recently, instead of EADM, EA prompted elephant1 to download and use Origin.

To use an analogy; we bought and used installer version 1.0. This had EADM. elephant1 bought and used installer version 1.1 which had Origin on it.

Not sure what's causing elephant1's issues though.
