Meteor bugged mailbox and trashcan
« on: August 25, 2010, 10:44:51 PM »
So a meteor destroyed my entire house, all the Sims are safe but the meteor hit my mailbox and trashcan rendering them both useless, any tips?  The maid just dumps trash on the floor now and I can't access the mailbox which makes gemcutting and smelting impossible.

You could just get a large recycle bin for outside and the small one inside.  They don't even use the other one when I got those.  At least that helps with that one.

I faced this myself in my last challenge.  First, you have to be sure all broken things have either been replaced or deleted.  I chose replace since the challenge does not allow for cheats.  This means check your doors, windows and even your lamp posts to see if they have a replace option.  Now, here is a tricky one.  I had a garden that was wasted but it does not look wasted.  You only knew it was wasted because you could do nothing with it even though your garden keeps growing and gets weeds.  I had to go in to buy mode and delete them.

After this, I did have to do a slight cheat as the notes I read upon this problem recommended this to get the stuck mail box and garbage can fixed.

Cheats console open (control plus alt plus delete in case you have not used this option before)

testingcheatsenabled true <return>

shift+click brings up object as an option

Click on object and it gives you the option to delete.

Save your game after deleting both your trashcan and mailbox.

Reboot your whole game and reload.  Your mailbox and trashcan should be back in place and fully functional.

When I tried this I made sure to do it in a second copy of my game just to be on the safe side.  One can never be too careful.

I wish you much luck and hope this works as well for you as it did for me.

I know some of the directions here are listed in other parts of the forums.  I merely added them here to save anyone who is searching for the answer the trouble of looking in more then one area.

Could you please confirm if this worked for you for the benefit of others who might also face the same challenge?

Many Thanks. :-)

Dynasty house :)

Tommy, I was under the impression that your Heroes Dynasty came to an end because of a unmet requirement (no toddler portrait). Are you just continuing with the file for fun?

I deleted my mailbox by accident a week or two ago. When I started my game up it was gone-so I did a save as and saved the game with a different name.  When I opened that game my mailbox was back.  You may want to delete both the mailbox and the trash can first, save game with a different name and see if that one brings them both back.
Hope it works for you too.

This happened before I ended the dynasty.  Thanks for all the help everyone :)

That could be why mine worked, Jancy.  I opened up the new version rather then the old version.  I just didn't want to risk losing my game all together by saving it with the deleted mailbox.  I hadn't thought of it as a factor until your post here.  Thank you for adding your insight to this. :-)

You're so welcome-- I also didn't want to lose everything so that's why I did a save as-thinking I would try different things on one game and if I made a huge mess I would have the other to fallback on even without the mailbox. Well, to my surprise, when I opened the save as game the mailbox was back!
