Few more tips to increase game performance
« on: October 29, 2013, 01:34:05 AM »
Howdy!

Just wanted to share with everyone what i did to get my game running 100x better and loading 100x faster, even with mods and cc.  8)

First of all, I bought a program called tuneup utilities 2014 (http://www.tune-up.com/download/). There is a free version but i highly recommend the full version, the amount it speeds up your pc is immense. I just want to say i have been testing different computer enhancing apps for years now, and this one is by far the most superior and user friendly. There's a mode called "turbo" mode that basically shuts off every pesky background app that keeps turning on after your shut it off. It also changes certain computer settings that makes things MUCH easier on your CPU load. I wouldn't be writing this if i didn't have the utmost faith that this app WILL speed-up your computer in many different ways.

Next I got dxtory (http://exkode.com/dxtory-features-en.html), which is an overlay client that can be used for many things, fps limiting being one of them. You can also tweak your cpu/gpu settings. I have mine tweaked just right for cpu heavy games such as the sims 3. And again, it helps A LOT. If you want to see what i have my settings set to, let me know.

These two apps combined and a forced v-sync setting on my gfx card and my game runs amazingly well now. I can even listen to my itunes while playing, which is one thing i could never do before. I honestly almost gave up trying to get this game to run well and these few things fixed all my problems.

I also mentioned in another thread awhile ago that i did edit the game files and change how much RAM the game uses, but that's a bit more technical. if you have enough spare ram and want to learn how let me know!

Hope someone out there who hasn't had much luck with their game running smoothly finds this useful!

Yes, please, Jazz, can you share how to edit the game files so it uses RAM better?
I believe the game is too old for the new computers and it need some tuning.
I just reinstalled the game + Into the future, everything worked fine, but adding Island Paradise makes it lag as it did when I had all the previous expansions installed.

I believe the updates since like late night, include provisions for using more than...2gb ram?  This should not be necessary unless you're still running a very old update version.
The game is still 32 bit which can only take advantage of 4gb ram even with the updates/ the manual method being alluded to.  So if you're upgrading your computer, don't worry about more than 8gb ram at least not for the sims' sake.

I'm sure sims4 will be 64 bit, although I worry that the graphics truly are not at all impressive unless the screenshots we've been given are far from the finished product... but that's for another thread.

Hi jazz,

Thanks for the information on Tune-up utilities. Seems a very handy program.
Please explain a bit more about dxtory and also the RAM settings.. ;)
