Multiple problems after reinstalling EP
« on: November 03, 2013, 02:23:44 PM »
Note: I can follow detailed technical instructions but I am certainly not a tech person.
Current Version: 1.63--------Operating System: Window--------Mods or CC: None--------
EP and SP: All EP except Into the Future.  SP: only Outdoor Living Stuff--------
Uninstalled/Reinstalled: Oct 2013
Problems: See below
As my game kept crashing (6 times in 8 hours), and noticed many little glitches such as festival lot not coming up, slow game etc.  I decided to uninstall (through The Sims 3 Launcher) and reinstalled all EP (through Origin Site.)
When I restarted The Sims 3 Launcher I got this:
1)   Message “Unable to connect to Origin”
2)    All my Store Content ( Premium Content, Wolds, Sets etc… were missing)
3)   Lost the interaction option “Chat” with a nooboo after the nooboo has been taught to talk. I am not sure if I lost other options also, there are a lot of them.
4)   My game keeps crashing but not as often. Sometimes the sounds cut off.
At Origin, It took an average of 4hrs to download EACH EP and 3 days to reinstall all EP. This futile little exercise cost me $125 CAN according to my internet supplier for having exceeding my limit. I am not criticizing Origin, I am just stating a fact. I dealt many time with their tech people and I always had an excellent service .
I contacted EA help desk.  They help me fix problem #2  but problem #1,3, and 4 are still there.  I regularly clear my cache files.
Can someone suggest solutions or direct me to an already treads on this forum so I can fix problem #1,3 and 4? Appreciate any help.

Well I do know that number 3 was a bug introduced with patch 1.63, hopefully it will get fixed with the next patch.

For 1 I found this, might be worth a read.

Mack, I'm not a techie either, but I have a couple of thoughts on this.

Re: No1.  I don't know what is preventing the connection to Origin, but, you can play by bypassing the launcher.  It might be useful to try this and see if your game plays any better or worse.   To create a shortcut, right click on desktop and select new followed by shortcut.  Then browse for the file TS3EP01.  (alternatively, do a search for the file and path then type it in.)  I think there is a thread here on Origin problems which may help you.  But, I would see if there is any change in the game played without the launcher.

You say you have re-installed all EP's and your stuff pack.  Does this mean that you did not uninstall and re-install the base game?  If this is the case, you could try a factory reset, though I do not know if this will help.

After re-installing, did you go into options and reset your preferences?  Lowering graphics, turning off memories and turning off the spawners (such as pets) can all improve performance.

On your computer, if you haven't already done so, run cc cleaner, and Malwarebytes, (both free to download) and do a defrag after the clean to improve your computer performance.

Do you have enough free drive capacity for paging functions?

Do you have a lot of old saved games?  Sometimes these can contain .bad files which can interfere with your current games.  Delete all old games which you do not need to keep, and delete all .bad files as these are corrupted and cannot be used though they can affect your game.

It would be useful to others trying to help if you could say if you are using any mods or cc or not.

I believe I read on another thread that the "chat with nooboo" is a new game glitch which a lot of players are experiencing.

Thank you Turoskel and Wai for your input.

Turoskel: Thank you for the link. Pretty tech but I think I can do it. Let you know if it works and solve the "unable to connect to Origin" problem. After reading other treads, it seems people just click Ok and does not seems to affect their game.
As for losing the "chat with nooboo" I can see everyone is experiencing it and not because I uninstall/reinstalled. I will not worry about it and delete the wish when it comes up in the game.

Wai: I have no mods or cc.
I did uninstalled and re-installed the base game. Sorry for the missed info.
I tried to search File TS3EP01. Apparently I do not have this file.
What is "paging functions"?
I don't know if I have old saved games. Where would I find them? I am thinking "documents--Electronics Arts--The Sims 3??
My computer is scheduled regularly to clean up and defrag. I do not know about cc cleaner and Malwarebyte but will give it a try.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the suggestions.

Mack, I'm really sorry, my typo.  The file is TS3EP11.  For most people the path is: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Island Paradise\Game\Bin".

Your game files are found under: Documents, Electronic Arts, The Sims 3, Saves.

(Simplified): Paging is where the computer program uses part of your hard drive for storing temporary files.  If there is insufficient space, the program will slow dramatically.

CC cleaner and Malwarebytes are both very useful routines for keeping your computer clean and functioning smoothly.
