Asher Story: Butterflies
« on: January 03, 2014, 05:14:02 PM »
So, I write a lot of stories but only have one online and I thought I would do one just to try and improve my writing skills. This my first time using pose player so I'm still figuring it out. :) Criticism is appreciated, enjoy!
----------------------------------------
(The first chapter is from our lovely mother Aliya's point of view)

"Now I know this is smaller then what you're used to but it will have to do." I tell the girls as we walk up to the new house.

"It's not like what dad has." Corinne complains.

"Shh! Mom worked hard to get us back, now be happy about it!" Ellowyn scolded her little sister.

"I know your father is rich and has many nice things but he doesn't set a good example." I tell Corinne.

"And why do you?" Corinne asks. I stop outside the house.

"I learned from my mistakes." Eventually.

I was different 13 years ago. I was carefree. I could care less what happened as long as I was okay.

I hung out at the Bistro everyday with some friends, the scene outside never changed. Then out of the blue someone new was
playing guitar outside; that caught my attention. Nothing ever changes in Sunset Valley, nothing. That should have been my first clue.

I heard from some friends that he was going to be at a party later and decided to go. He was awfully cute.

He was a gentlemen and saved me when "crazy" Gunther, as he was nicknamed, came over to yell at me.
"Aliya, right? Your friends told me you would be here." He said handing me red roses.
"And you are?" I ask.
"Ice, Xander Ice."

Things happened between us for a few months.

I didn't know he had a girlfriend. It just had to be Agnes, she was my friend.

I freaked out when I found out I was pregnant. I was too young to be a mother!

I needed to tell Xander. I went to his house to find he was starting a business in Shang Simla. I didn't see him for 2 years.

Ellowyn was a toddler when I saw him. It was like the first time we met, we fell in love again.

As they say, I was young and dumb. How could I possibly make a living while being pregnant again and having a toddler in
the house?

Ellowyn aged up to child as Corinne aged up to toddler. I had just gotten a job as a reporter and had to leave them at home
with a babysitter most of the time. The last time I saw him was 3 years ago, and that was the last straw.

He said he thought I couldn't take care of the kids while being pregnant and I told him he'd need nothing short of a court
order to get them. A social worker took them away.

I changed everything after that. No more parties, no more skimpy clothes; I had to show the jury I could take care of the kids
on my own. No one could take my kids away.

I couldn't blame the kids if they wanted to stay with their father of course. He had a fabulous house, and built a room just
for them. They had everything they wanted. (Corinne aged to child)

I visited when I could of course. I almost gave up when I saw what the kids had at their father's house. Ellowyn kept me
going.

"I don't want you to miss my birthday mommy." She said.

I finally won the case after the kids took a field trip to Moonlight Falls for Ellowyn's teen birthday. I was on my way out when Xander stopped me.
"I don't know what made you think you could take care of these kids but they will come back because you mean nothing to
them!" Xander yelled angrily.
"I think they would disagree!" I say back.

I walk out before he can say anything else.

"Mom? I asked if we could invite the Smith's over." Ellowyn's voice pulls me back to reality. I smile and clap my hands.
"You can as long as you don't stay up too late. Tomorrow's the first day of school." I reply.
"Yeah! I can show Midnight my new room!" Corinne exclaims happily.
Our little family will be okay as long as we stick together.

Just because I feel like the girls are gorgeous:
Ellowyn

Corinne

Ava

Thank you! Hopefully they look natural. I'm glad you like it! Here's the next update, I probably won't be religious with the intervals though.
-----------------------------------------
(Narrated by Ellowyn)

"So, how big is the new house?" I hear my best friend Jason on the phone. "Compared to the other houses."

I look around to make sure mom and Corinne left the room before I reply. "Dad's house is the galaxy, your old house is
Chicago, and your new house is Texas. This place is smaller then then a restaurant kitchen."

"Are you going to have room for us?" Both of our families grew up poor so we understood each other, and since we were
both the oldest we were used to taking care of younger siblings. He always helped me take care of Corinne and I helped
him take care of Midnight.

"We can put Corinne and Midnight outside for a change."

"Get off the phone, we're leaving with or without you!" I faintly hear his twin brother Henry over the phone. "See you in a minute
E!" I hear the dial tone after Jason hangs up and I sit on the couch and wait.

"You weren't kidding when you said the house was tiny," Henry tells me as he sits on the old couch. Mom had kept this couch
from when I was born.

"Yeah, I know." I rolled my eyes and looked over at Willow.

"Ser-ser-seriously Willow?!" Jason yelled angrily. "When will you get tired of using your fairy powers?"

"When it stops being funny!" Willow laughs at Jason as he shivers. Willow may look cruel but she's a little
immature-no- really immature. Unless you're talking about love or faeries; those are her specialties.

"Midnight, you're in the way of the Pixie vs. Cowboy!" Henry exclaims as he watches the cartoon intently.

Willow adopts the same pose as her half-brother. "I think if she was more aggressive she would win."

"What can I do?" Midnight asks.

"Corinne!" I yell and look around for my little sister.

I had only taken 2 things with me from dad's house: my guitar and my music box. How could I say no when Willow asked me to
play a song?

"...Cause we ain't even on earth tonight. We on a planet where there ain't no drama and the party's never ending!" Willow
and I sang to the music quietly. Everyone said we had beautiful voices, but I was too shy to sing in front of people unlike Willow.

Of course all good things must come to an end. "I'm sorry sweetie, I had to take an overnight shift an work. I'll be back in the
morning, take care of your sisters!" Mom explains as she gives me a hug.

Some things never change; even as a kid I took care of my younger sibling. I don't know why I thought this would be any
different. I plaster a smile on my face to match moms and hug her back.

Taking care of my sisters of course including making dinner and putting them too bed.

"You can always tell when there's going to be a ghost in these movies, there's always creepy music!" I complain. "All of them
are the same."

"Is that why you always skip that part?" Midnight asks finally realizing why we never let her watch those parts.

"Who wants Mac and Cheese?" I ask.

#Thatstrangemoment:

It was a little after dinner and everyone but Jason had things to do and left. "Do you want me to stay over?" He asks hesitantly.
"But only because the last time you moved you had an episode." I blush, embarrassed. I don't like to talk about them.

"If anyone asks I needed help with homework," I reply before this conversation goes any deeper. Jason smiles mischievously.

"I am pretty good at Algebra II."

"How are your episodes?" Jason pushed.

"Castle was pretty good, I mean when Ryan and Espo-" I got cut off.

"Not TV episodes! You never told me what you found in Moonlight Falls with Willow. This is important for me too." I sigh, I
guess I'm not getting out of this conversation after all.

"Why do you actually have to go to family reunions? Why not just write a letter?" Willow asked.

"Just remember that at the first opportunity we go to the library to look for books on episodes."

We only met my father's side of the family in MF. There were lots and lots of faeries who, frankly, didn't wear enough clothes.
Especially Grandma.

"We're not going to find anything." Willow tells me.

"What do you suggest?" I ask cautiously.

"There's a place a friend told me about..."

As soon as I walked into the room I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of books. They were everywhere, all shapes and sizes,
stuffed in every crack and crevice. The air smelled musty from the books sitting around, possibly for years by how much dust there
was.

There was a nice librarian but she was cryptic.

"You believe in magic, correct? If you're meant to find the book you'll find it." She had said.

"We are never going to find anything! We've been down here for hours, someone's going to notice we're gone." I prop my head up
with my fingers.

"I'll find something!" Willow asserts.

"Look at this!" Willow exclaims as I get up to leave. I turn around at look at the book and page she's on. The book is called
"The Cross Breed Diagnosis." Willow points at a paragraph on the page. It reads:

Episodes: a finite period in which someone is affected by a specified illness (mortals) or conflicting heritage (immortals)
Immortals: Episodes, as they are called, are periods in which irrational behavior is exhibited based upon emotions or experiences
hard or impossible to cope with for the immortal. This is a rare case only exhibited when a person's supernatural blood conflicts,
most usually from two different species. Immortals with one blood line, or mastery over their powers usually have visions of
present times rather then episodes.

"Two blood lines? Immortal?" I ask incredulously.

"Part fae, part what?" Willow muses. "What's on your mom's side? Are one of your parents gods?!" I pause. Mom has never talked
about her family, her past, or anything before I was born. She was very careful to avoid any conversations about herself; it was all
about us, her kids. I couldn't be sure what she is.

"So, we both have conflicting heritages?" Jason asks confused.

"I don't know what to think. This is all crazy, I may be part fae but mom's normal!" I say, frustrated.

"All these years I thought I knew her, I thought I knew everything about you." A frown appeared on my face.

"We need to find my heritage, but what about yours? The same thing must be causing yours." I say.

"Mom's a fae and dad's a werewolf. Not much to know. Maybe your mom's a werewolf?" She's much too normal for that, then again she is gone on every full moon. Anything's possible at this point. Is anything she told me true? What if Corinne and Ava weren't my sisters?

--------------------------------------------------
(Ellowyn)

I had push my doubts out of my mind until I got home, hopefully with some time to myself. That didn't happen.

"Ellowyn, I need you to help me practice my plies!" Corinne yells as she comes over in her ballet clothes. Ava screams in
background about something the baby sitter was to busy texting to do. I still had to fix the toilet, make dinner, and do
homework.

"Later Corinne, I've got things to do!" I yell back over the din. Corinne glares at me.

"All that baby does is sit there and cry! I wish she was never born!" Corinne screams sending the cacophony up 3
pitches. I feel her words sting me but I ignore it and pick up Ava. Corinne storms off into the bedroom, the only place with privacy.

"It's okay," I whisper to Ava as I try to calm her down. "I'm sure she didn't mean it."

But I didn't know how to fix a toilet, or how to do Algebra II, or how to make Corinne go to bed. Things were snowballing way
out of my control. I needed to calm down before something happened. Being upset on a full moon never helped anything. If
I stayed clam I could control it.

I got out of bed later. My head felt fuzzy and Corinne and Ava were asleep, what harm could that do? I broke down as soon
as I left the room, what was I going to do? I wasn't a parent, I was just a kid who was playing parent. Where was a mom
when you needed one? She was never home. My feet knew where I was going before I did. Jason was always there when I
needed him, even when I used to push him away. He had the episodes too, so he knew what it was like.

"What's wrong?" I spilled everything.

Jason pulled me into a hug once I stopped crying. He smelled good, like mint. He always wears that cologne, that smell makes
me feel safe.

I don't how long we stood like that, I buried my face in his neck. My head felt fuzzier and fuzzier. I know I had to get home
soon, the fuzziness was spreading to my vision. The full moon was always right over top when that happened, it was a sign
of how even when I thought I could control the episodes, I really couldn't do anything against them; you had to go with the flow.

"I need to go," I whispered as I pulled back an inch, I didn't want to let go. I looked at his eyes and saw them swirling. The
full moon makes his eyes swirl. From green, to blue, to brown and back to green. Then everything went fuzzy, nothing had
definite edges; the room swirled under me. I saw myself as if I was a third person in the room, I was subject to whatever
twisted ideas the full moon wanted to carry out. I saw myself talk with Jason and then I...I kissed him.

"Elly?" Corinne's voice pierced the fog surrounding my thoughts. I could hear my blood pounding in my head as loud as a drum.
The crying with the drum made a mournful melody threatening to make my head explode. Wait, who was crying? It must be Ava,
Corinne doesn't cry. I try to move but my body is a piece of lead and the floor is a magnet.

I finally force myself to get up right before mom was taking us to school; at least she finally stepped up as a parent. I look over at Corinne and smile when I see what's she's doing. Maybe life isn't as bad as I thought if I'm making an impression on Corinne.

Watcher's note: I don't think babysitters should look this close to the children they're babysitting...

"Corinne, I found some butterflies!" I yell across the playground at my sister who's playing on the monkey bars. Mom dropped us off before work today. It would have been okay if it wasn't 6:30 in the morning. The butterfly seemed to look gratefully at me when I opened my hand to let it fly free. I probably could have sold it for simoleons but I knew what it felt like to be caged. I sighed when I looked at my watch, only 8 hours until I had the afternoon free. Well, as free as I could be anyway.

I thought about yelling "Freedom!" when I got out of school. The clichés and hierarchies of high school were picking on all the new kids and when they got bored they moved on to the poorer kids. I especially hated Lisa Bunch's group. She was the queen bee with boy worker bees carrying out her every wish.

I waited 20 minutes for Corinne before I turned to leave. Then I heard shouting coming from the building behind me. I groan. This probably means trouble.

"Give me my backpack back!" Corinne yells while stomping her feet. I freeze a few feet away as Lisa bares her fangs.

"I don't have to give you anything you little brat!" Lisa yells back.

"Step away Lisa! No one talks to my little sister like that!" I barge in on the conversation.

"And what are you going to do if I don't?" She asks unafraid. That was a mistake.

"You did what?!" Mom screams at me. I almost cover my ears as I cringe. "Mrs. Anderson had to separate you add Lisa from a brawl over a backpack! What got into you?"

"It was over Lisa stealing Corinne's backpack!" I exclaimed. I immediately regretted my response when I saw mom's face. "Sorry, I was just trying to protect her." I bit my lip as I watched her.

"Okay, I believe you." She says. "But no more fights, unless you win." I laugh.

"How did you know I was telling the truth?"

"You were biting your lip." I stared after mom as she walked over to the kitchen. Wait, I bite my lip?
