Skill Problem
« on: September 27, 2013, 03:01:26 AM »
This doesn't really have to do with Island Paradise per se, but I wasn't sure where to put it. Anyway, my 4 x 4 dynasty founder, Agnes Crumplebottom, cannot improve her painting skill. She can improve her writing skill, but when she paints, the skill bar doesn't move. It acts completely normal, same colour and everything, but she isn't gaining any skill. It's stuck half way. As maxing the painting and writing skills are her LTW, it annoys me she won't be able to even get a medium tombstone, likely. You're probably wondering what this has to do with IP. Well, I recently bought it as a download, and then my friend told me downloads are really buggy. I can't remember if this thing happened before I bought IP or not. Anyone had this problem?

No, this doesn't have anything to do with Island Paradise.  I'm moving it to the Miscellaneous Help board.

Personally, I have never had a glitch with painting but there have been a number of dead slow skilling glitches since a patch fixed the freakishly fast skilling glitch a couple of months ago.  My slowest skill acquisitions are Dance and Violin.  The other day it took my level 7 violin skill Sim six hours to raise the skill on Violin one measly notch!  And there are 12 notches in each bar!  And that was using Perfect Skill Drinks from a Master of Mood Mixologist too.  He would be ashes before he made level 8.   :'(

As the dead slow skilling can be as big a deal breaker as the freakishly fast glitch was for dynasties, my suggestion would be to make sure Agnes is in an Elated mood and use Mixology Skill Drinks or buy a lot of Potent Skill Booster elixirs from the Elixir store or (if allowed) buy the Tree of Prosperity (premium content with Lunar Lakes) and eat the fruit of the purple configuration to increase Painting skill or hang around a fairy who has their green aura turned on.  I think there might even be a dragon that can help with certain skills but I don't recall if Painting was one of them.

Hope this helps.  Check out the Guide for more skilling tips.

So the slow skill building only may affect one skill or so, not all? My Sim learned piano and painting quite fast, but she's struggling to even get to level one cooking, even by reading the book.

I've had some games where my sims gain skill points extremely slowly. I haven't noticed it happening to any specific skills though.

I've found a lot more slow skilling problems lately.  I confess to resorting to abusing the elixirs or all my Sims would be elders before that master any skill. ::)

There is a mod supposingly fixes the slow skilling problem.  If you have university xpac, you can abuse the brain enhancing machines too.

I've only just seen this, but it's happened to about three of my sims now. It's also usually skills that they're close to mastering as well. It wasn't massively bothering me until my current file where I need them to get the Young Again potion; funny enough, they discovered all the other potions after two whole sim-weeks of being blown up. I just thought I had really stinky luck with this file.
