Transferring to a New Computer
« on: October 12, 2013, 08:49:17 AM »
My computer is and has been on the verge of a meltdown for about a year. I may be getting a new one soon, so I would like to know if there's a way to transfer my game to the new computer. I have the download version, which I know I can re-download, but how can I transfer my files? Is there a way that I could transfer the save file instead of just the family, so that whole world stays intact? Also, how can I move my CC? Thanks a lot!
Please take a look at my story, the Thousand House!

What I do is save my Sims 3 folder (I have Windows 7) Library>Documents>Electronic Arts>The Sims 3 to a CD or flash drive. Then I download on my new computer all my Sims 3 game, EPs, and SPs. I then start a new game and play new file for a few Sim hours. I will exit the game, delete the folder it makes (Library>Documents>Electronic Arts>The Sims 3) and then copy what I copied on my CD or flash drive where I delete the newly created file I had just deleted. That should transfer all your saved games, Sims, CC etc.

Would I need to re-download the game? Is there a chance I'd mess up the whole file?

When you get a new computer, you need to re-download any Sims 3 games you have onto your new computer.  You can find the order to download your Sims 3 game Here . It will have other information there as well.

After playing the game for a few Sims hours to make sure it is playing ok, you close out of your game, and then delete the  Library>Documents>Electronic Arts>The Sims 3 file and replace it with the one you had saved from your old computer.

It is good idea to have a saved copy left on your CD or flash drive of that file. You don't want to lose it as you try this
