The Greatest Food Ever - bugged?

In any game I've played, this opportunity seems impossible to complete. I cook using Serve a meal, and then put the food in my inventory. I've tried putting the whole dish, I've tried having my Sim pick up a plate then put it down and just put that plate in, I've tried both those things then putting it in the fridge THEN in my inventory - but it never registers that I have a dish. I tried breakfasts, lunches and dinners. What gives??
