Mod the Sims Produce Stand
« on: September 30, 2013, 08:50:16 AM »
I found this mod that looks like a great alternative to the Savvy Seller collection premium content, but I am unsure to try it because I have only ever used twallan's mods. Has anyone used Mod the Sims or even this specific mod and could give me a review of how well it works? It looks great if it does work...

Hi Pally, I tried out the mod and it was pretty good. I have Twallan's mods and various other mods installed like nointro, only important memories and no conflict so far.

I like how it has quite a few settings for you to customize and play around. I have Agnes tend the stand for me. If I set my family member as owner, my family members can buy the goods for free, and any sim purchase earnings will go into my family funds immediately. Just remember to set pricing multiplier to more than 0, so that your price is not $0.

The only problem I have with the mod is once (in one rare instance) after purchasing an item, my sim is reset and returned home, probably some error happened. My game will also report an error about "null value where an object instance was required" from time to time, but it does not cause me any problems other than that.

Most items that can go into your inventory can be sold in the stand. I placed a bunch of items into it, saved and reloaded the game, and it didnt break my game nor conflict with any of the mods, as far as I can tell. Still, I would recommend backing up your save files just to be cautious.

Wow thanks so much for trialing it Simfreeek! I will definitely try it after backing up my saves.

Did your sims who bought items actually receive the items in their inventory? (I think the Savvy Seller collection just deletes the item).
And did you try going to it from a family that doesn't own it? I'm wondering if a sim from the family who was running it before would still man it when you are playing a different family - and if their items stay in the stand to be bought by others. But you've done heaps to help me already, so don't feel like you have to test this for me if you haven't done the above already. :) Thanks again! :) :)

EDIT: OK, so I checked whether other families can see the items consigned by another family with the produce stand that came with monte vista (this mod is based on it) and they can't. So I really hope that sims can buy stuff from your active family tending the mod stand so that when you go to their family you can see what they bought (because looks like the opposite doesn't work). Does that make sense? But I might download it soon and try for myself...

Dont mention it, Pally, glad to help! Plus I quite liked the mod, so thanks for letting me know about this object, haha. It is indeed better than the official Fruits and Veggie Stand. For the official veggie stand, in order to cancel your consignment items, you have to do it one item at a time, so you're gonna have a bad time if you've consigned 200+ cabbages and decided to take them back.

Yes I did test that while playing around with the stand. I waited until a non-family sim bought something from the stand, a group serving of Lobster Thermidor, I then checked their inventory using Nraas, sure enough, they get the lobster meal in their inventory. The description in the mod page tells us that everytime a sim buy something from the stand, an item from the stand is randomly selected and bought.

As for your second question, it looks like the active family is always able to give commands to the stand, change ownership, tend stand, add/remove items etc. The only thing you cant do is taking and putting the stand into your inventory, since you are not the original owner of the stand. All the settings of the stand is preserved when you switch active family. I switched my family to the Wan family and the stand is still tended by Agnes, all items are still in the stand inventory and profits still go to my previous family, until you change the settings.

You can also lay some items on the stand like a table, those items will not be bought, it looks better this way. Otherwise the sims look like they are browsing and buying from an empty stand and that is just freaky.

Lastly, the mod files need to be renamed so that you can properly recombine them. For example:
MTS_ani_OFBStandFixed210913.part1.rar
MTS_ani_OFBStandFixed210913.part2.rar
MTS_ani_OFBStandFixed210913.part3.rar

Happy simming!

Thanks so much SimFreeek - you went to such effort for me! I will definitely download and use this! The only thing I don't understand is your last bit about renaming the mod files. Do I do that myself? And when?

EDIT: if you're interested, the same person is soon to be releasing a mod fix for the premium content bistro oven and restaurant menus. In the video it looks great:

Regarding the mod files, the file is compressed and then splitted into 3 files. The reason I mention this is because those files are not named properly, therefore, during extraction your software might not be able to find the next piece of file to join together, resulting in a broken file error.

If you have file compression softwares like WinZip, WinRAR or 7z, once you renamed the files properly, the next step is simply to right-click and extract them.

Inside you will find an ani_OFBStand.package file, to install this mod you just copy ani_OFBStand.package file and paste it to your Mods/Packages folder, just like how you install Nraas mods.

I will check them out once they are available. =)
