Issues installing Movie Stuff

I bought Movie Stuff on origin today, and when I went to download it I got this message:

DLC Compatibility Alert
It seems the base game for this DLC was not installed through Origin. For the Sims 3 Movie Stuff to work, you will first need to:
1. Select 'Uninstall Now' below, locate the base game, and follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall it.
2. Download and install the base game through Origin by selecting it in My Games and clicking Download.
After that, you can download and install the Sims 3 Movie Stuff.

So I did so, uninstalled the base game in the Add/Remove Programs window that opened when I clicked 'Uninstall Now', and then reinstalled it through Origin. It then allowed me to download Movie Stuff. When I click Install, I get this message:

Please use the Sims 3 launcher and update your version of the Sims 3 before installing this product.

Problem is, when I try to open the launcher, I immediately get a message that says:

The Sims 3 Launcher has stopped working. Windows is looking for a solution to the problem.

This message then closes a few seconds later.

Any ideas?? I had installed patch 1.57 before buying and trying to install Movie Stuff.

Is your base game the DVD disc version?

It was originally installed from a disc yes. Now it's been reinstalled via Origin.

Have you tried using the accumulated Superpatcher to bring your game up to version 1.57? If you do that you don't have to use the launcher in the process at all.

UPDATE
Since installation of Movie Stuff, I can now not install ANY store content. It all still shows up as "downloaded" in the Launcher, and it is all in the Downloads folder, but when I try to install it, it says:

Installation failed. Please make sure your game has the latest Software Updates and try again.

Why??? I own like 3/4 of the store... There has to be a way around this. Any ideas?

Your problem sounds rather similar to what's discussed in this thread, don't you think?

I really wish I knew what's causing this, so I'd be able to fix it if it ever happens to my game. It must be so very annoying. If/when you find the solution, it would be very good of you if you came back here and posted about it, so we could all learn how to deal with it.

Ohhh crap. I actually found a rather simple solution on another site that worked fine for me. Instead of hitting the download button on the Origin site, hit the i button next to it. There's a download button on that page, & it works without having to uninstall the base game. Worked for me, saved a lot of heartache.
