Could IP be the cause of my problems? (RESOLVED, I think)
« on: September 07, 2013, 08:19:19 PM »
I  have been having all kind of problems.  The correlation is that they started after I bought IP, but I also started to do the project town jump and so I don't which one could be the reason, although I don't see how the town jump could cause them

Problems
Can't send my sims to other countries.  Never before had a problem,  now sometimes they can go, but most of the time they just don't show up, have stopped sending them as it is too frustrating to have to exit to main menu and restart the game.

Quicksand.  My sims all of a sudden sink into the ground.  So far I have been lucky and I have been able to use reset to get them out, and a couple of times I put them on static to keep them alive and when the school bus arrived they showed up at school and came home fine.

Lose the ability to control them.  All of a sudden I can't tell them what to do, they are there, their icon is on the side but I can't control them.  I can click on the fridge and they will go and get something to eat, go an pee or shower, but not get into the bed, watch tv, woohoo or some other things.

Lose saved games.  I save each game with a number 1, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, and on and on.  In a couple of games, all of a sudden I was able to save but the saves weren't showing up, I checked and there were no bad files, and they showed up there, but not on the main menu.
Then, all of a sudden, they were there, after I had moved them the family to another town.

Now, I have to replace beds after every two or thee days (sim days).  Couple married, had three kids, two are at teen, the oldest is at YA, and all of a sudden, they can no longer sleep in their beds.  It's not that they refuse it is as if the order didn't go through.  Click on bed it shows up then vanishes, send the sim to the room by clicking go there and they go, click on bed and they stand there, the bed option leaves and they walk away, looking for a rocking chair.  First it was just one sim, I replaced the bed and it was fine.  Then later on, it happened to another one.  Then the same one wasn't able to sleep in his bed.  Then the married couple couldn't sleep in their bed.   Then I had three sims out of seven not able to go to sleep in their beds.
I lost my two elder sims to old age, so I now only have five sims.  I just saved and quit the game and everyone of them refused to sleep in their bed for the last two nights, I had to replace them all both nights.  And it is the bed, not the room, I moved the bed into an empty room and sent a sim who hadn't slept in that bed to see if that was it, and they couldn't sleep in it either.
I can't afford to keep replacing five beds every night for my sims because of this.

Could this be related to my having bought IP?  Is anyone else having problems?

This is a project story, so that to some extents limits me on what I can do to try to work this out.  I can try moving them out and then back into their home, or to a new home to stay until it is time to jump to a new town again, but I would rather fix the problem so it won't keep happening then work on just the "symptoms".

Anyone else having problems like this?  Is this connected to IP or just bad timing of happening just when I bought the game?

EDITED for Update

I decided to uninstall SEA, I hated to give up an expansion pack, but if that was the problem, too much for my computer to handle, then I had to pick one and I chose SEA.  I deleted all of my saved game except the ones from my project stories, one of homes from various towns and from the swapshop that I am working on, and the garden town.   In the project games I made sure that I only had the last five saves of each family in the present town they were in and just a couple from the previous town.  Such as the Lombardi family in MF, at save 2.3 I deleted all of the saves up to 1.8.  In the town of MV that I had lost saves, I found that the saves that were missing showed up.  I had already deleted some of the saves, but deleted up to 4.8 and kept up to 5.

All of the quicksand events stopped, no more problems with beds or other strange quirks.  Have tried a couple of times to send them to China and in an older save (from MV) they didn't show up, but in a save from MF they did.  Tried on saves with seed families and they made it fine to the other countries.

Am still going to be hesitant to send my sims there until I know it is safe, but for now at least all of other problems are gone.

I think that it was too many expansion packs, and I don't know if the number of saves files was a factor, but it could have been, I didn't think to check and see if the missing saves came back after I had uninstalled SEA before I deleted all of my other games in the different towns.

Either way, my project stories are not having any problems at present so I am crossing my fingers and toes that the problem is fixed.

As far as I know the problem with the sims sinking into the ground appeared with supernatural. If you can get them to a dresser you can make them change clothes, and they will appear back where they should be above ground.

The rest has me baffled. Do you have any mods or custom content?

no mods, no custom content, they can't get to the dresser, have used that before and sometimes it helps, but for some of the sinking sims, it doesn't.  When they disappear, they are gone, except I can hear their shouting when I click on their box.

When I have had the sim "swimming" or walking partly in the ground, I've been able to just send them to the dresser, but with them totally gone even clicking on the dresser does nothing.
It's as if they are gone, but yet aren't.

It won't drastically affect my game if I uninstall IP, but it will cause some irritation, items, furniture, plants and other that has been incorporated into the games will vanish and I will have to redo sections.  I can't remember if it will affect any chosen traits, no LTW are connected to IP, so that won't be affected.

Frustrating

It could very well have to do with you installing IP. New expansions are known to be buggy and cause all sorts of issues.

Have you downloaded and installed the latest patch, 1.57, yet? If not, maybe it will make things better for you and your sims.

yes, downloaded the patch as soon as it came out.
My son is very good with computers, and I'm not just being a mother who wants to think her kid is good at a lot of stuff.  Well, he is, but he has an IQ of around 150 was told that the sky was the limit, scientist for NASA, very doable.
Anyhow, he thinks it is the overall aspect, too much of the total amount on my computer.  It doesn't matter which one, IP was in a sense the straw that broke the camels back.

I just uninstalled SEA and will see how much it helps, if any.  It was the one only that I was willing to give up, so hopefully that will fix the problem.  If that doesn't then I will try uninstalling IP and see if that fixes the problem.
I would rather it be a problem that can be fixed with the patch, but the bed issue started yesterday and I had already downloaded the patch.

If uninstalling the SEA expansion pack helps, I will shouting it from the rooftops.
