Can't extend pool
« on: September 09, 2013, 11:57:13 AM »
Hi guys. I'm trying to extend a pool but it just says 'can't extend pool' I've had this before & just given up. But as it keeps coming up (different pools & locations) I thought I'd better ask for help.

So details are I'm building on land, no whet near the ocean, solid ground. I've done testing acheatsrnabled true & buydebug in case any span were blocking - all clear. There is nothing obstructing it. Is there a way to force the extension or a cheat to use.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Is it possible that a basment or something else underground is in the way?  Or perhaps plants or decor above ground?  The other possability I can think of comes from the seasonal lot marker, that if there is stuff on the ground set for another season, it might not let you extend the pool because something for another season is in the way.

Hi thanks Golconda, no basements or anything below ground. Nothing above blocking I either. I'm building in IP on the Sweet water pool, between to 2 toilet blocks. I took the rest of the building away I don't know what else to try now. *pulling hair out

Thanks for trying

I have no idea if this will work, because I have no idea what might be cauing the "can't extend pool" message in your particular game, but the first thing I would try is "flatten lot" (or alternately,  place floor tiles all along the area where you want the pool, in order to flatten that area.)

If that doesn't work, I would try setting constrainfloorelevation to false and then building the pool. (Turn it back on right after, and test a sim in the pool to make sure they can swim and exit safely.)

Both of those can sometimes cure all manner of weird problems where the game thinks something is not flat enough or deep enough, when it looks like it should be fine to an outside observer.  Not sure if it will help in your situation, but it's worth a try.

Maybe the 'constrainfloorelevation false' cheat may help. Is your ground level where you are trying to extend it? Hope this helps!

EDIT: intl_incident beat me to it!

That is weird. I just went into the game and have the same problem. It's not even consistent. There are some spots where you can add pool and some spots where you can't. I can't see anything to prevent it and the ground is level. The only thing I can think of is that the original builder may have used cheats while building and one of those weird bugs has saved with the lot. You can build a pool inside a basement so I even tried adding a basement (which it allowed) then adding a pool inside, but while it lets you build the basement, it says no to the pool.

This is where I was able to build pool. I even tried deleting a lot more of the original pool to see what happened.

Thanks everyone. I'll try the cheat code consyrainfloorelevation and see if that helps. I've never used that cheat before so maybe it'll work.

Twin mum that is exactly what happened to me. I even moved the toilet blocks over & the gap inbetween them was bigger as I thought it could be the walls getting in the way.

I don't usually mess with community lots like this but I wanted to put the recently downloaded surf machine in a pool, so I adjusted the main pool for that then wanted to add a separate pool for swimming.

I'll try the cheat code & see if anything helps. Thanks again everyone, greatly appreciated.

Glad you worked it out. Funny, I'm comfortable using CFE, but I never thought to try it on the pool.
