Adventures broken
« on: May 30, 2013, 04:48:30 AM »
I just sent my sim for the first time to China. He has only been on 1 adventure before - a quick one to Egypt. I signed him up for his first adventure (after some shopping), and it was to convince locals to turn off their lights at night. It said he had to convince 0 sims, and it sent him straight to report in. It acted as if he'd done the adventure - gave him points, gold, and simoleons. I took him back for another adventure - the dragon cave came up, but I left that one because it sounded a bit hard for a beginner. He took the next adventure - to use a sim's key to get into a tomb and retrieve a relic. It sent him straight to give the relic to the sim, even though he had not been to the tomb and had no such relic. Again it rewarded him as if he'd completed the adventure. I took him back once more. The dragon adventure came up again (again I declined) and after that he was not able to find any adventures. He'd just go through the motions of reading, and nothing would come up. :( :(

So I sent him home. I'll send him again soon I guess, in case it's a one time thing. This has never happened to me before. It is only the second time a sim from this save file has been to china, and the first sim did no adventures.

Has anyone had this problem, or know how to fix it?

This is actually a very common bug with adventure boards for all of the countries and a lot of it has to do with cancelling an adventure.   There's not much you can do other than maybe replacing the board but I can't remember if that's possible or just someone suggested.  I'll see if I can find more information.

Just so you know though - the Dragon Cave quest is actually really easy.  They all are for each world so unless it involves a skill you want, you should be able to do them all.

I've had it happen that adventures stop showing up, but they start coming back the next day or later that same day.  I don't know about the part where you Sim gets the reward without actually doing the adventure.  I don't think I've heard of that one before.  And as Rica says, the Dragon Cave adventure is easy.  There will be more than one for that location, but the first one is very simple.  The game is programmed to give easy Adventures to the new travelers and the harder ones go to Sims who have some adventuring experience.

Thank you both of you. I'll send him again and if I get adventures I won't turn any down. If not, I'll stay for a few days or try replacing the board but I'm hoping it wil l have fixed itself on a second try.

I sent him again, and he got his first adventure just like normal. Went through it normally too. When selecting his second one, I had a little hiccup where he was once again reading without getting adventures, but after about 5 tries he got his next adventure. I will just make sure not to turn down an adventure from now on.

Thanks heaps for the help! :)

pallyndrome,

I've never had problems with turning down adventures.  I do it all the time with ones I don't want to do immediately.  I don't think it has any influence on when or which adventure comes next.  No available adventures happens occassionally whether or not you have turned down a previous adventure.  I usually cue up six or eight requests if I have had a failed request.  More often than not one will come out of the 6 to 8 queue. If not, do something else until after the postman calls the next day and then try again.

I am so having the same problems with the Adventure Boards being borked... What about if we went into "Edit Town" used the unlocking option and built a new base camp? Would that help> I am sure that the problem occured since the new "Adventure" boards outside the sorority houses at Uni

Sorry for necromancy - one of my boards in China now appears to be broken - at least for one Sim.

Can anyone tell me where to find the board to re-install it? I looked in BuyDebug and couldn't see it but my old eyes do miss things.

Sita, I don't know for sure, but, as far as I am aware you cannot replace the board.  I think it might be possible to replace the entire base camp, but I have never tried to do this.

Are you sure you actually have a problem?  Or, could it be that there just aren't any adventures available at this time.  The adventures are random and sometimes no adventure will appear for as much as a couple of days.  However, there is always, to my knowledge an adventure available immediately you take your first sim in a new game to each of the three venues.  In France you should immediately be asked to retrieve a mysterious object, in Egypt to obtain a relic from the little tomb just above the base camp and in China to find a relic in the temple like tomb near the market.  After these three, the adventures are random and not always available immediately.  You may just need to be patient.  Try queuing up your adventure requests and if that does not work then leave it, and do something else, until the following day.

However, if you think there is a problem, then I would suggest doing a factory reset as this cleans the game and fixed an incredible number of issues.  The factory reset is very quick and easy to do.  See the stickies in "Technical Help" for instructions.  If this does not help, let us know, I am sure someone else will have some ideas.

Good luck.

Thank you!

There was something odd about that whole save, so I went back to a previous save, and the board now seems to work as expected, mostly - doesn't give adventures when the Sim already has one, but otherwise does.

Yes, queuing requests was no help, nor waiting for a day. Patience is something this game teaches :)

IDK whether it makes a difference but the Sim who couldn't get adventures at all was one who had done a lot of them before, in China... in France she seemed to have no trouble at all. With Visa Level III she ought still to be able to get quests, I think.

Also I was hoping it might be possible to get the board to place at their holiday home, which is MILES from base camp, but I can't find it in Buydebug.

I'll have a look at the factory reset, thanks again.

Sita, once you have a holiday home you will occasionally receive adventures by the phone.  I don't think the adventure board can be moved.  I always buy my holiday homes close to base camp, though there isn't a really close place in Egypt.

In France, I evict a family just opposite the market and place them in another house.  I then bulldoze the house and  change the assignment to allow player sims to purchase.  This gives a nice sized lot close enough to the board.  In China, I bulldoze one of the large houses and again change the lot type to allow purchase by player sims.   Particularly in China I find this a far better player experience than using the available lots which are all pretty inconvenient.   Of course, if you like the house and can afford it then all you need to do is make sure it is available to player sims.  Adventure opportunities do become more and more infrequent once your sim has completed the main adventures, they can also become a bit repetitive and I generally refuse most of the ones I get offered on the phone.

While some of the player vacation homes are far away from everything, if you are using the LTR Motive Mobile, traveling to and from home has its advantages--all your motives are topped up.

Also, by the time you get a house, particularly in China, you have usually reached the level in Martial Arts skill to meditate and Zeneport to and from locations, which is really fast no matter where you are.
