Can sims children take time off from school, without skipping & getting in trouble?

Other than holidays (Snow Day, etc.), I don't think they can just not go to school (unless they are sick) without getting in trouble.

I don't think so, either.  Even if you're able to keep their grades up with tutoring, they will get lectured and in trouble with the adults in the household every day for not going to school.
