But There's Nothing in the Way!
« on: August 20, 2013, 09:46:57 PM »
I bought a new fridge for my sims, put it in the same place as the old one, but no one in the household could get to it. They got the thought bubble with the crossed out footprints. So, I re-purchased the old fridge and put it back in the same place but still, they can't get to it. I have tried moving everything in the kitchen even though there is no possible way that anything is in the way. Still, the fridge is off limits. I even tried changing the flooring! Resetsim doesn't work either. I need help! The Grim Reaper is planning a visit.  :-\

So it doesn't matter where you put the fridge? Or is one spot in particular the problem - in which case, can you show us a picture? Can you put the fridge in another part of the house entirely? If your sims are starving, take them to the diner or to buy fruit from the grocers to eat.

I did put the fridge in the living room so they wouldn't starve. Thought of that after the panic subsided.  :)   I also figured out that there appears to be a large dead space in the kitchen floor.  When a drag my cursor over it a little red circle with a line through it shows up.  I thought maybe I could "delete" whatever is there in build mode using the hammer, but it won't let me. Says the object (there is no object) needs the floor tile. I also can't grab anything. I may try moving them out and back in again (worked for a previous glitch I had a few days ago) but since I just moved them in a day ago (sim time) I'm not looking forward to that again.

Sometimes I get tricked by the game into thinking there is no object for a space that claims it has one - then I zoom out and focus and realise there is a light that can be hard to see. Can you check for that? The only other way would be if there was a puddle or something on the floor and you can go into cheats testingcheatsenabled true and shift click in live mode and click delete. Other than that, I guess moving out and in would be worth a shot. Also go into buydebug maybe to check for invisible objects?

I occasionally get gray ovals on the floor that block things and can't be deleted. The only solution I've found is to move to a different house.

Try enabling BuyDebug and MoveObjects, see if that shows anything and allows you to delete it. Most likely it's the grey objects ("social jig's") that Marian mentioned.

Exactly the same thing happened to me and my two sims when I started playing in Isla Paradiso. They simply couldn't use the fridge, and there was a large area in the kitchen that didn't work normally. I couldn't put anything there and it was impossible to delete the foundation with the hammer tool.

I think it could be a new bug that came with Island Paradise expansion, because I don't remember ever having encountered it before.

Anyway, I solved the problem by going to Edit town, evict the family without the house, copy house to bin, bulldoze the house, place the copy at the same lot, put the family back and return to game.

I've had those strange grey ovals turn up here and there in my game too, and I've been able to delete them with the cheat Move Objects On.

I did end up evicting, bulldozing the house, then placing a copy of the house on the lot and moving household back in. Worked like a charm! I wish I knew what caused this. I did try the buydebug and there was nothing to be seen.
