Can't seem to complete download from Origin
« on: August 16, 2013, 11:39:30 AM »
Hi!  New to the site, so bear with me.

I have been a Sims player since Sims1.  Recently I decided to update my game(s), and bought all the EPs from Seasons on (and the stuff packs I didn't have).  Let me just say that, since I live in the middle of Nowheresville--I've always bought my games as direct downloads from Origin (or the EA store when that's what it was).  I've never had any trouble with downloading, installing, patching or playing the games before now.

So it started with Seasons not dl'd properly.  It would reach a point...say 75% comlete...then jump back down to the 40's or 50's.  It never paused or stopped.  It just went into this weird cycle of trying to complete then going back down.  Shut down the dl.  Got on chat with the helper (who was very nice, if not exactly helpful), searched the net.  Finally found the forums here.

I did a complete manual uninstall of all of my games (and all related content).  Cleaned the registry. Defragged the hard drive.  Uninstalled Origin via Revo.  Shut off the computer.

So, now I've reinstalled Origin.  Started downloading  Sims3 base game.  Having the same problem.  The people at Origin have no idea.  They really said "i have no idea."  My firewall is off;  my antivirus program is set to have Origin as an exception.  I've followed the links for making sure that everything is going into the correct folder (Electronic Arts).

Does anyone have any help or suggestions for me?  I actually own all of the Sims3 products as direct downloads.  Problem is...can't even get to the install part.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum, Cerridyn.

You said you had uninstalled all your games and all related content.  So at this point, do you have any custom content in your game?  How about mods?

I never have had mods.  The only content I have ever added was through the store--which has all been deleted as well (when I deleted the games).

I had issues with Sims2 and CC/Mods.  That's why I never went that route with this series.

Actually, on my computer right now, there is nothing related to Sims in any way, that I can find.  I've been pretty thorough in getting rid of it.  Unfortunately, it seems I was a bit too thorough  :(

As I understand it, it's the download part of the whole procedure that's not working properly right now, so have you checked your Internet connection, to see if there's anything wrong there? Can you download other things without any problems?

I got on live chat again early this afternoon, and left the poor rep. scratching his head.  He did give me the phone number to their "Advanced Assistance"  and so I called them.

1.  Origin/EA is having download issues at the moment.  For a few days, in fact.  So if you are planning on downloading anything through them, best to wait a few days.

Since my download was in progress and I wasn't having problems with it stopping or pausing randomly, they were gracious enough to try to help me with the head scratching.  After running a tracer, it appears that part of the issue may be my ISP.

2.  The instructions for reinstalling the game (the one where it says to rename Sims3Setup to Sims3Setup.exe, et al.)  is no longer valid.  Apparently they have fixed the issue of the tags being incomplete and after installing though Origin there should no longer be a problem.

I don't know when they fixed this, though the last post I saw on the topic from the EA forums and the Sims3 site were December of last year (2012).

So, here I am, all installed and patching!  YAY!  Finally  :)  Let's just hope it works when it's time to play.

(then I have to install all the other ones.  ugh)

Thanks for the brainstorming and help!

Glad you're finally able to get your downloads installed, Cerridyn.  And thanks for sharing that information.  It may help someone else with a similar problem.   :)
