Game freezes when I use ResetSim Code
« on: March 08, 2012, 07:49:43 PM »
Hi,
I loaded a file and noticed that one of my sims is stuck but when I tried resetSim the game froze. I can't click on anything but the little stuff like water and the fishes in the fish bowl keep moving. I tried restarting the computer, and reloading the file but it still didn't work.  Any ideas on how to fix it?

Did you wait a few moments before shutting down?   ResetSim * effects the whole town and depending on your computer it may take a minute or two for all that information to process.

I waited about 10 minutes and it finally started working. Thanks.

I'm so tired of game bugs :(
My game keeps freezing up and I tried staying a new town (same town, just saved all my families to bin and drooled them into new game) and I hoped moving away would solve the problem. Nope.
I have an amazing computer with plenty of starts to run it. I even bought a new video card. I even reinstalled the game. I cleaned out my windows registry. And it still freezes up for 2 and 3 minutes at a time. The problem is haunting me.
Now,  it's new thing: freezing up indefinitely when I do resetsim *

Not just 5 or 10 minutes. After 40 min I just used task manager to end the game.

Oh I also dealt with error code 12. Its the ultimate reason I left town.

Never did find a successful fix. I'm so frustrated.

How can a game be so great but so awful too?

I've also tried mods. I have error trap, overwatch and a couple others. Removing mods doesn't help.

My situation was very much like yours.  I've upgraded to a great video card and the game is still difficult in my DecaDynasty file.    One thing you can do is to look at the actual game files in Explorer and see if any of them has the word "bad" in the name.  If so, then that file is corrupted beyond repair.  You will just have to delete it and any other files with "bad" in the name.  The corruption can spread to the other game files if you don't remove them.

One thing that helps with the error 12 is to always use Save As.  This also gives you the opportunity to have multiple copies of the file in case something goes horribly wrong.  In addition to this, I've stopped using Save and Quit.  It seemed like the last bit of my play didn't get saved that way.  To be on the safe side, I use Save As and then Quit separately.

Also keep in mind that just because you've got an amazing computer doesn't mean it can run Sims 3 smoothly, especially if you have a lot of expansions installed.  This game really hogs your computer's resources.

Sorry I keep rambling, but I keep thinking of other things to suggest.  Have you tried running the game in windows mode?  That's a big help for me.  Also try reducing your graphics settings under the Options menu.

Let me know if any of this helps.  :)

Do you clear the cache files on a regular basis? Also turn off memories completly in game options.

How can a game be so great but so awful too?

I think most Sims 3 players have asked themselves that question a hundred times by now...

It seems that Error code 12 is an "out of memory" error, and it's caused by playing for too long at a time, or playing a too large save file. If you look in your save file, how big is the TravelDB.package file?

And also, can you run a dxdiag report and then copy and paste it in your next post? If you do, cut it off just above Driver Strong Name, (=four inches below the heading Display Devices), the rest of the report isn't that important, it just occupies a lot of space to no avail.
