Minor glitches... Worth a reinstall?

Hey all... I'm just trying to figure out if there's a way to fix what's going on in my game without having to reinstall entirely, mostly because the problems are small and barely worth the time it would take to reinstall.

Anyway, I'm not sure really how to explain the problem other than my game is just being... Glitchy. This has been since installing island paradise. Sometimes it'll freeze up in CAS (the sims turns all gray and weird looking), sometimes it will freeze during saving and won't save, and sometimes it just plain old quits in the middle of something.

It's not often though, and mostly circumvented by saving often... But it's hard spending too much time in CAS without something going wrong.

Can anyone think of any reason this might be, or anything I might be able to try before totally reinstalling? My computer is pretty new and the specs are high so I think it has something to do with the game, but who knows.

Try a factory reset, this is usually as good as a complete reinstall and takes just a few minutes.

I don't think I've ever done that, mind me asking how? I'm on a Mac... Is it possible to do a factory reset on apple computers?

I use windows.

I have done a search and can find nothing which says it can/cannot be done on a Mac.

The instructions are "stickied" at the top of the section.  Take a look.

If you are doubtful about trying this, you could ask on that thread.  Or maybe, wait to see if someone else here can confirm whether or not it can be done.

In the meantime, have you checked your games folder for .bad files?  One of those can cause some very odd problems and should be deleted.   There is also a "performance issues" thread "stickied" above which may offer some help.

Update:  I have just noticed that Simlover16 says she is a Mac user and has done factory reset.  Hope that helps.

Yikes, there were a TON of .bad files in my save folder. What does that mean?

 I got rid of all of them, but haven't been able to properly test yet. If that doesn't help, ill try the factory reset. I actually have done so many times (not for this issue though) and just didnt realize that's what it was.

Edit: I know that .bad means the particular file is corrupted. What I meant was, could having so many like that effect other files that were not corrupted?

So I tried the factory reset to no avail. I was in CAS for about two minute four or five different times before the cursor turned into a plain black one (as opposed to the sims' cursor) and I had to force quit.

On the factory reset directions it says that it's as good as reinstalling. Is this true, or does a total reinstall have benefits over the reset? Also, is there anything else I can do before that? I really prefer not to have to ditch my (sims 3 store bought) CC if I can help it, as I use it a ton. I think I have a few things that weren't downloaded from the store and were user made, so when I reinstalled my CC I did not install the things I suspected to not come from the sims 3 store in case that was causing the issue, but obviously it didnt help.

Sigh...

To be honest, not being a real techie, I don't know.  However, as the Factory Reset does not replace any of the game files, I can not see how it could be.  Any file on a computer could be slightly damaged over time.  (My opinion only, qualified by having been a programmer/analyst back in the days when these things were using transistors.)

This is just my opinion, others. more up to date, may say differently.  But, in your situation, I would first uninstall the game and all of it's components.  Then I would do a computer clean-up.  Uninstall anything which you do not use (old games etc.) if you have any.  Run a Malware program.  Run CC cleaner.  Run disk defrag.  Re-install Sims 3.  Download shop content from the list of your purchases which is stored in your shop account.  This is going to take a considerable time to complete, and I really don't know if there is another solution or if this will fix the problem.  But, that is what I would do.
